I have made the thread about ice skating the lady said they didn't accept my younger daughter after I told her she is deaf. I have filed a complain to ADA last week.
And I have just registered another for my older daughter who is hard of hearing but she asked would like to have an interpreter, so I informed them in email. And I got their email...
Dear ***, I got your request for an interpreter for your daughter. I would love to help, however there is one difficulty: I have to pay interpreters several hundred dollars a session, and for this class I don't think I'll have enough sign up to warrant that. I am running on a strict revenue budget, meaning I do not have a cent in hard funding for this program. I am still relatively new to the *** system, and I have not worked extensively with deaf and hard of hearing people in Alaska -(although I'm one myself) perhaps you know more than me on how we can get interpreters for children who are hard of hearing - outside the expensive *** system? - I'm thinking volunteers. I'd be happy to keep working on this with you. *******
Unfortunately, I dont have any family, nor relatives, nor friends who would be volunteer to interpreter for my daughter, I guess I would ask her for refund but my daughter would be disappointed, my younger daughter already is, now older one will be.
I will need a civil right lawyer, right now I am seeking on internet to see anyone of them well knows civil/ADA law. ANY INFORMATION AND SUGGESTION WOULD BE APPRECIATED,THANKS.
P.S. I understood, deaf got frustrated staff didn't want to provide the interpreters, also they, staff, might be frustrated with the interpreters cost. I just contacted the interpreter refferal here, they said 0.50 for a min. I figured that class is 1 and 1/2 hrs-twice a week-3 hrs, for 3 weeks-9hrs+1and half hrs in the beginning to worship. It would be 300!
