BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. —

Deputies had to break up a fight between a Brevard County judge and public defender after an argument in court Monday, WFTV reported.

Judge John Murphy is accused of punching veteran public defender Andrew Weinstock after the two had words during court in which Murphy allegedly pressured Weinstock to get his client to waive his right to a speedy trial.

"You know, if I had a rock I would throw it at you right now," Murphy tells Weinstock. "Stop pissing me off. Just sit down."

The judge allegedly asked Weinstock to come to the back hallway, an area where there are no cameras, which is where the fight broke out.

"If you want to fight, let's go out back and I'll just beat your a--," Murphy says in the video before the two head out of the courtroom.

Although Murphy and Weinstock could not be seen, the courtroom camera captured audio of the scuffle and several loud thuds that accompanied it.

Those inside the courtroom sat uncomfortably and then clapped when the altercation sounded as if it ended.

Weinstock's supervisor told WFTV Weinstock thought they would just talk out the problem, but he said no words were exchanged -- just blows thrown by Murphy.

"The attorney said that immediately upon entering the hallway he was grabbed by the collar and began to be struck," said Blaise Trettis, public defender of the 18th Judicial Court. "There was no discussion, no talk, not even time for anything. Just as soon as they're in the hallway, the attorney was grabbed."

Two deputies broke up the fight, and the attorney was immediately reassigned to another area so he and the judge would not have to interact with each other.

After the confrontation, Murphy allegedly went back into court and finished ruling over first appearances.

Murphy wasn't arrested, and it doesn't appear charges will be filed. Murphy could still be disciplined, however.

Shouldn't a Judge be arrested and charged with assault, just like anyone else?
 
Sure would have wanted to be there when that happened....:giggle:...gives new meaning to arguing a case before a judge....:giggle:

Yeah, it would be interesting to watch. :lol:

However, I don't think I'd want to be the next defendant up before that judge! Yikes!

That judge need to go to anger management classes and grow up .
 
Often do wonder...how Judges can keep their sanity...day in and day out...listening to all the crap in Court on a daily basis....very tedious!....this Judge just snapped....maybe needs a vacation?...or early retirement?....:giggle: .....Perhaps the Judge just woke up on the wrong side of the Bed?.....'Course...it's better for the Judge to slap around a Lawyer than a defendant...don'cha' think so?....

Also, should be better than that Judge who sit behind his desk, naked from the waist down and playing with himself!...(you guys remember that one?).....:laugh2:...don't believe that Judge was from Florida either...(say it ain't so!).
 
You can't really blame him for wanting to slap around a lawyer .. :giggle:

It appears the attorney and the Judge are refusing to make any statements to the Sheriff's office


must be that mutual respect thing amongst sharks I guess.

Murphy wasn't arrested, and it doesn't appear charges will be filed. However, the public defender's office said the incident will be reported to the Florida Bar.

thats what i thought too, bit of a crappy job if you ask me
 
If you become a judge, you should expect headaches everyday. That's why a few of them have whiskey hidden in their desk to calm themselves down. :lol:

Yeah, she's hot. BTW, I never forget one of her shows in which she asked a boy, one of the defendants to come to the chart on the wall and she got up and went to the chart as well. Then she noticed him looking at her legs, "Are you looking at my legs?". Everybody in the court laughed. She knew the boy liked her. She's cool.
