Soooo I have to have another hearing test on friday lol...I haven't been hearing high frequencies very well and my ha mic needs to get fixed so I'm left ha-less until friday lol thank god b4 work but thursday work is gonna be brutalllll....soo I don't hear the alarm anymore lol or my cell when it goes off which concerns my mom more than it concerns me lol...I need to get a new alarm clock that shakes and something for the door to alert me of it cuz I don't hear the alarm go off and I don't hear knocking or the door bell lol...thank god I got the versata power aids so I would have room to grow with them in case my hearing dropped...I am going to take ASL as well in the spring/summer so I'm looking foward to that! Newho that's my post...does anyone know if the govt pays for ur "safety" like fire alarms and such?

AliciaM, do you mean that you wear your hearing aids overnight in your sleep?

not good idea to do that because you will get frequent ear infection

for alarm clock - get SONIC ALARM (it vibrates your bed)
for door knocking - get alerter/flasher device that you hang on the door (it'll flash light when somebody knocks on door)
for your cellphone - get this bluetooth device that connects your cellphone to alarm clock that will wake you up when it rings

I don't know about your country but in America - the work/college/facility must provide accommodations

Where did I say that? Lol

oohhhh.... wow you used to be able to hear alarm ringings w/o your HA when you're asleep? interesting.. I suppose your hearing damage wasn't that bad and now it's degrading, I suppose. I'm stone-deaf without my HA.

Where did I say that? Lol

I wasn't sure so this answers my qtn. :P I know somebody who does and I just can't imagine....but it works for him. Oh, well, to each his own, I suppose.

Botti's back from grocery shopping!!!! Err...., carry on.

I had a mostly low frequency loss b4...and before I could still hear ok high frequencies but lately with or without my ha's its been a no go for the highs lol... My bb is jacked up the highest volume it can go...other ppl hear my convos so clearly that everyone knows my convos better than I do lol...my house phone is a no go I can't hear jack all with it... My moms gonna buy me the sonic boom alarm clock from my audis office..its 55 :) not sure bout the door and such yet. I have an audiogram friday to see where my hearing is...if it went down again thank god my ha's can accomodate it ...I will be closer to severe if it does go down tho...at least I'm at a point where I know its coming if it does go down and I'm not too bothered by it

I think my right ear has dropped too, before I used to be able to hear the telephone, but now I cannot, but i do hear the doorbell, on some occasions, except the phone, its weird.
Sometimes i am unable to hear shoutings from my family e.g shout my name to get ma attention when im ci-less lol.

Wow what is causing your hearing to get worse so suddenly? Ive always read that this was a cause for concern! Post your new audiogram as an image file(imageshack or imagechicken to upload) didn't your hearing loss use to be mild-moderate?

ya mild-moderate and in sept it went to moderate and now its prolly moderate-severe...i have a genetic loss

Alicia did your audie send you for a follow up with an ENT(CT scan, bloodwork)? Did they say your loss will be progressive? You made a huge fall in hearing. How are you adjusting?

I still don't have flashers. I do have one for my alarm clock, but do not use it. I have a dog that wakes me up right on time each day. If I want any devices I have to pay for it.

I that is how it is with me. My hearing has made a drastic change in the last 6-7 mths and every time it happens they make another ENT appointment to make sure there isn't anything funky going on. Its all very frustrating for me but part of the process. Hope the test goes well Alicia

I haven't had the audiogram yet but she might after friday lol which would be devastating because I've been thru that already and they found nothing. I didn't have any genetic testing or such but I'm italian and jamaican...either side like great grandparents and up wouldn't have said jack all about a hearing loss and my great grandma was hoh but wouldn't wear her hearing aids she also didn't speak english just italian so even if she had always had a hearing loss and it progressively got worse I doubt she would be really concerned because my family is loud anyways and she prolly figured it wud just be a bother to seek more amplification for it. She threw her ha's out in the garbage actually a few times, but we always caught her doing it...her walker also made a nice looking side table with a nice end table cloth and some knick knacks on it lol...ahhh old italian women..gotta love em:)

I am adjusting well, I figured before that my hearing could go down more and so I'm not too bothered by it...i mean it's a bit frusterating going from a total hearing person to not lol but so far I love the Deaf culture and I really want to learn ASL as well and I've always had an interest in it even when I was hearing, so hopefully I can do that in the summer:)

Ya I think the fire alarm should be paid for since it's code to have it in your house. I know the rest of the doodads like flashers and such aren't paid for but seeing as a fire alarm HAS to be in your house it should be paid for in my opinion. My mom is going to get me the alarm clock like I said and I wish I had a dog to wake me up but we don't have one lol darn :giggle:

Go to firefighter place and ask about flashing fire alarm if they have it they'll give it to you free.
And door alarm, wake up alarm they're not free you have to pay for them.
Telephone, don't you have telecoil or enough volume to use phone and hear it ringing with hearing aids? Or do you wear them sometimes but not all the time or something?

My cell is ok i have t-coil on it so my ha's pick it up...but my house phone i think is just crappy that's why it doesn't pick up th t-coil well?..i can hear the phone ring most of the time i just don't hear well when im actually talking to someone so i jsut end up using my cell most of the time which racks up my day minutes..

Is your telecoil automatic? Like if you put phone near it, telecoil come on its own or manually switch it to telecoil? Because if its automatic it'll be more difficult to pick up, you should ask for manual telecoil so you can switch it and it actually pick up a lot better so the house phone issue should be solved and if not then there should be something you put on phone like amplifer or something
