Yeah... BRB does the trick! I had this guy annoy me all the time by IMing me all the time. Finally, I managed to escape by talking for a moment then saying something like, "Someone's at the door... BRB". After a few minutes, he'll get tired of waiting and leave.
This worked well, until this other guy became more annoying. This guy would IM me as soon as I get online or return from "away" mode. He actually sits at his computer waiting for people to get online. It's as if he's got everyone on his list on "alert"mode. Anyway, it got a bit out of hand... until I got Trillian. With Trillian, I was finally able to chat while being in "away" mode. After being "away" full-time, he was unable to know if I was at the computer or not... so he eventually stopped annoying me. Now, he will IM me from time to time... and we'll have a good decent converstation. Finally, I got it under control! Heh!
