You would have to lower the resolution of your image. You probably have too many colors in your picture. Let me see if I can give you an example.Steel said:okay I already edit the size of this animated gif but it still wont fit into my avatar because it kept saying it's over 5000bytes

I know it's not 100 x 100 pixels...VamPyroX said:Okay, this should work...
Well, it's what you have. All I did was remove every other frame and double the speed of each frame so the output speed is the same. I also made the image 75 x 75 pixels in order to save the colors. If I left it at 97 x 95 pixels as you had it, everything would be blurry and the colors would be tacky.Steel said:eh never mind...I'll look for a different avatar...
this one looks like crap, no offense...
but thanks for your help anyway
Well, an average computer user uses 800 x 600 pixels for their computer resolution. If we were to allow 150 pixels for avatars, that leaves 600 pixels for other users. As for memory size, it has increased. When AllDeaf was first founded, avatars could not be any bigger than 8 KB in size. That's a big improvement... going from 8 KB to 50 KB. As for using images in signature, you're right... bigger images can be used. However, if they are too big... then members may be asked to reduce the size. I've often asked several members to reduce the size of their signature because they were like 500 pixels high or were 500 KB in size. In order for AllDeaf to run smoothly, we need to keep most images as small as possible. If we were flexible for one person to use bigger images, we'd have to do the same for everyone else. This will keep going until someone eventually complains about the page loading time. I'm looking at my avatar and I feel it's too big. Your avatar right now looks like one of your best avatars yet!Steel said:Yeah I know.
I just want to look exactly the same as it gets smaller but I guess it doesn't really work that way.
maybe if I can allow my avatar to be about 150x150 that would just be really better that way...I mean, what's wrong with 50 more pixels?
downloading problems, I know. But...this is the newer version we are using right? so I thought maybe with the newer version, would it still run fine if we use bigger avatars?
Otherwise, I just dont understand why we can use bigger pictures on our signtures, and use smaller pictures on the avatars...kind of irony, if you ask me.
Thanks. My signature was something I whipped up recently. Didn't take long to make it. Heh!Steel said:Well yeah thanks
I just think it would be pretty cool if I'm using an avatar that's animated and very cool to look at, you know? something that gets you hooked or whatever like that...
All right, I know that other sites allow users to use 100x100 OR even bigger, and others dont allow 100x100 or bigger so, it's all depends on the server right?
and with different version that we use, it should always improve to make it look nicer, better and easier to use, etc...but what about using bigger avatars, as well? I mean, just what kind of server are we using right now? is it still the same server since the birth of AD? Just wondering...
I'm not much of a computer wizard, but maybe in my opinon, it's proably better that we could show avatars in our profile than our signtures, because the avatar is below your s/n! and the fastest way to look at your personality or style you know?
I know I've complained about size before, but seriously, I dont really care if your avatar is 200x200 or bigger because my computer is brand spankin' new (Compaq)...runs great on DSL/cable, and can load up any pixels at anytime and I dont have anytime to waste when the images loads but I know others still have dial up connection and 56k modems...but c'mon people! it's the 21st century!
well I just thought that if we are able to use bigger avatars, (with no pictures in signture at all) it might save us some time without editing or resizing, it might look pretty cool for our profile, you know?
I know you've heard the old saying, "bigger is better" lol so...I dunno I guess we aren't ready for this so I guess I still have to have some patience until someone decides if we could get to the next level of images...or not.
by the way, nice signture.
