Syed Farid Khan, 35, was incarcerated in the Dimapur Central Jail in Nagaland, India, on rape charges. He never got the chance to stand trial.

"A mob of around 4,000 people stormed the central jail after breaking the two gates and took the accused out of jail and paraded him naked to the city tower in the heart of Dimapur town, before we could rescue him from the mob," said district police chief Meren Jamir.

The New India Express reported Khan, a used car salesman who was suspected of illegally immigrating to India from Bangladesh, was accused of raping a 20-year-old woman from Naga several times. Some sources said he was involved in several other rape cases.

Khan was lynched after he was taken by the mob on March 5. "The body was retrieved from the mob after police fired in the air to disperse them," Jamir said.


District magistrate Wezope Kenye added, ”We have clamped curfew in Dimapur district to contain the law and order situation following the unfortunate incident.”

"... We resorted to firing blanks and tear gas shells to disperse the mob but they managed to pull out Khan from the jail," Kenye said. "The situation is tense and we are making all efforts to restore normalcy in the district.”

Rape is quickly becoming a hot button issue in India. A documentary about the gang rape of a young student in December 2012 has ignited India and there have been dozens of large protests against the epidemic of violence against women in the world’s second most populous country.

It's time action was taken against what seems to be a major problem in India. It's very commonplace.

While I would say he deserved it...

the mob mentality is terrifying. >.> 4,000 people? wow.

well obviously got know they are...did you read the horror that poor little indian girl went through they shoved big metal implement right through her uterus she died...one of the specimens of humanity commit suicide in prison although inclined think he was helped.and another is still underage he says only drove the bus bc of age he be free within few years.
I am against death penalty as you have it in States but sub humans like these rapists I believe in natural justice

But.........what if someone was picked up because they looked like the person that did this but really was not the one that did it???
 
what if America excuted wrong person and they have What if America made a woman suffer before her death bc wrong poisen.Shit happens..This a question should be asked of this poor girls parents.
Men still believe women bring it on themselves in india travelling at night but as I say if you 100% sure that the rapist then I look other way if he getting punishment

That is a problem. The heading said alleged, not convicted. I don't mind a quick application of sentence but I prefer a trial and conviction first.
 
I think this attack was more to do with him being a migrant rather than the rape itself.

OK, if the person is found guilty, then what? Will the court let the mob kill that person? No.

I believe that the mob had all information that leads to that person who had raped a few times before and got away with it.

In America, a person is innocent until proven guilty. When a person is found guilty, we want to kill that person but law enforcement protects that person from us. In other words, we, taxpayers pay that person to survive in a prison. Is that fair?

NEW DELHI – Police say a mob overran a prison in northeastern India, dragged away and lynched a man accused of rape.
Police Constable Sunep Aier says the mob overpowered security at Dimapur Central Prison in Nagaland on Thursday. The crowd then seized the rape suspect whom they also accused of being an illegal migrant from Bangladesh and killed him.

In recent years, India has seen an outpouring of anger against sexual violence that is pervasive across the country. But Thursday's killing was also likely linked to tensions in Nagaland over an influx of migrants from Bangladesh.

Several local groups blame the migrants for taking away their land and jobs and have been protesting in recent weeks.
