Alienware

Huh? How can guess that Alienware is better than any regular computer while Alienware doesn't make anything inside the cpu. I have to admit the computer case is awesome. As for inside such as processor, memory, video card, sound card and hard drive.... You can get that from Dell, HP and others. Or you can even build one. I have never own any brand name cpu, all of my PC were custom build by me. :D Of course except for my laptop and MAC.

Alienwares are nice. I like the appearance of those systems. However, they are pretty expensive!

What are you talking about they don't make anything inside the computer? They let you customize everything on the site. If you're into gaming or want the best of the best, Alienware is a good choice becuase they offer the latest products, granted you're going to be paying almost double for everything, but that's why I said you are better of building one yourself. You can get stuff from Dell, HP and Gateway, but they are overpriced also and not always the best, but they will be up to date even if they aren't the best always. I built a computer on Gateway and it came out to 4grand. I could make it myself for $2,000-$2,500 and the specs for everything would be better in most cases, especially the RAM.

www.pricewatch.com is a good place to buy stuff yourself if you want to build one.

They are expensive and do look nice, but just too overpriced. They are pretty much for people who want to show off and say, " Look, I have an Alienware ", have money to blow, don't know anything bout pc's and go with this since it's their best choice or because they had good experiences with them and just like them.

I wanted an Alienware when I didn't know much about pc's, but after I started to learn more it was pretty obvious that they are nice, but very expensive and I could build my own that could be better than an Alienware for a lot cheaper. It may not have the name Alienware, but wouldn't you like to save yourself a grand or more and have the same exact computer from the inside or better?

From what I meant, Alienware doesn't make processor, hard drive, memory ram, etc. Alienware buy them from other companies such as intel, amd, matrox, and IBM then assemble them. That is what other companies (HP, Gateway, Sony, IBM, etc) do that. So, how can Alienware is better than others? I would say it is same as others but only champ about Alienware is the cpu case.

Yeah, I usually checked pricewatch before I buy something.

 Sure am lost in here! I'm not as computer savvy as the rest of you are in this thread, still I'm determined to learn as much as I can about computers, so I can build a good one the next time it comes up for an upgrade! ;) :applause: to you all computer whizzes.

You're right about them buying from other companies cause they do use the Intel/AMD motherboards. They do buy their products from other companies, but they assemble them better and put the top of the line equipment in them (ex: add more fans then Gateway would do or put top of the line RAM in them). If you're into gaming, 9/10 or even 10/10 would prefer an Alienware before they picked a Gateway, Compaq, HP, Dell, etc.

If you know someone that knows bout companies, just ask them for help. If you aren't sure, you can go to www.tomshardware.com and they tell you about up to the date stuff. There was a good article few months back about the AMD 3200+ vs. P4 3.2ghz and just recently did an article about the PC500 RAM. Even if you aren't sure you can go to other forums and ask around in a computer section and they can give you ideas.

I know I'm not a computer whiz, but I do know some things and know building a pc is a lot cheaper than making one. I have a few friends that help me out and if they can't help me, I ask at the other forums cause I trust them.

you insensitive clod.. why buy alienware if you can build and hand pick out better components yourself on pricewatch and newegg? i feel sorry for those who has to go out and buy a dell/gateway (exceptions for laptops)

Me neither...but thanks for the pointers. My husband does know a fair bit about computers, so I sort of rely on his knowledge and look around with him and getting ideas about computers and so forth. We both have AMD 2100+ , so I'm pretty happy with what I have at the moment. :)

bTW, the site you gave me...is it international or for the northern hemisphere like Northern America, Europe, etc? I'm in Australia -- please bear with me as I'm not quite THAT computer savvy to understand whether parts for computers would be compatible for Australia or not.

I rather assemble my own computer rather than ordering a brand name computer like Dell, Alienware, Gateway and others. In most cases, home-built computers are more durable than those brand name computers.

I am perfectly happy with my home-built computer that I am using at this moment. :)

The most important thing is what you need your computer for, and you can buy a right computer that meets your expectations and needs.

The Alienware computers are good for gamers and graphic/media digitial designers, so they are not for everybody.

Dell is kinda of good but so that the alienware's laptop is really stronger than dell.
