Alasaka struck by 8.0 earthquake; tusnami warning issued

It is never a good situation when there is an earthquake, but Alaska is in the diver's circle where earthquakes occur frequently.

It was pretty quiet here in Bay Area for several months which is not a good sign. :Ohno:

Better get one before I come out in Oct. Or better yet, after I leave. :giggle:

Brace yourselves. A 8.5 earthquake is coming!

Not in California, geologist have said that CA is not capable of anything higher than the high sevens and California has never had a quake in the 8.0 or greater magnitude. Now the Pacific Northwest including BC and Alaska are capable of magnitude 8+ quakes and they are capable of having Great Quakes where the ground shakes for minutes on end and you can have ground shifts of hundreds of feet. The 1964, Good Friday quake in Alaska had a magnitude 9.2 and the ground shook for over 4 1/2 minutes. Of the 139 deaths most were killed by the resulting tsunamis after the quake.

Wow.. yeah I remember the 9.2 that I read somewhere in 1964. That's pretty amazing strength of the mother nature.

Just because a geologist says CA is not capable of anything higher than the high sevens, it does not mean a 8.0+ earthquake won't happen.

...But he doesn't say WHERE exactly in the US (other than the generic "in the USA") the 'predicted' quakes will occur on July 12 and September 9 .

:hmm:
