I have two travelling alarm clocks which is Shake Awake and Sonic Shaker.

I am having an issue with Shake Awake alarm clock because its switch on left row had too many options (off/ light/ vibrate/ buzz/ vibrate-buzz combo). I had to get up 5am to take my son to Seminary class but it fails wake me up every now and then. I did make sure that switch was set to Vibrate mode but the switch seem dicey that I have to wiggle on that vibrate setting to "set it" correctly. It seem playing "dice game" with me whether it'll vibrate or not regardless it's been set to.

Sonic Shaker seem more reliable because of its vibrate setting switch stops at end to leave it alone (switch to vibrate and forget it.). Originally Sonic Shaker was having problem with hardware that cause clock to reset itself when alarm goes off or pressure on shell that cause me to miss wake up time. I bought Shake Awake alarm clock to replace old one.

When I had problems with Shake Awake, I decide to try fixing the Sonic Shaker and finally found what the problem was and fixed it. Now I have two working Vibrating alarm clocks. The comparison are that Sonic Shaker vibrate constantly while Shake Awake vibrate with pulse.

Since that I check through many Deaf stores for new vibrating alarm clocks. All of them have sounds included. I wish they make one with no sounds, just vibrate/light only so it won't be a hassle to double check to be sure it's set on correct position for vibrate/light.

I missed my old reliable Radio Shack timer clock that I had for 25 years and still works today but its shell and panel was broken. I love it cuz there's no Sound setting in it. I wish Radio Shack still sells them today!! I remember they used to sell 7 days Timer clock back in 80's and costing $79 and I was about to buy them when I had money then by the time I had $$'s, It was no longer sold in store grrrr!! My friend had one and it was so much convenience that you don't have to change alarm each day everyday.

I had big issue with Sonic Boom. It tend to be funky and problemic. It did played "dice game" with me sometime and settings for vibrate are dicey as well. It eventually broke on its own from power surge. It's my 2nd Sonic Boom over 7 years period. Lousy and not reliable. LED display supposed to dim enough itself for dark room but it's too bright (I like it very dim but readable and does not shine through my eyelid  ). I had to throw wash towel over it. This thing sucks big!! I would NEVER buy this again!!

Look like I may have to buy Timer clock at Target or Walmart store that I may have to rig short cord from socket to clock and it don't have backlight for it. I could modify it by slipping in Electroluminescent "card" back of LED screen and wire it to its own 120v ( you can buy from any store and crack its case and trim EL "card" with scissors then use soldering glue without using soldering iron to attach wire to EL "card". I'm that creative tho). I have several vibrating disks w/ cord from broken Sonic Boom that I can use 12vdc 1 amp or 1.5 amps transformer to hook up to vibrating disk and plug it to Timer clock. I know Timer Clock are much more reliable than Deaf Vibrating alarm clocks but have no snooze button tho.

I ever wonder what happened to today's Deaf Alarm clocks that had too many settings including sounds that many of us Deafie don't need sounds!! I hates alarms that are "flaky and dicey"!! I wanted it be KISS!!!! (Keep It Simple Stupid!!!) It be nice if they market Deaf Alarm clock catered only for Deaf which have only switch for Vibrate/Light with Snooze and have NO SOUND included!!!! No Pun intended!! Reliable Deaf alarm clock are especially important for us to get up for job or appointment.

If you know of any Deaf Alarm clock that have only setting turn on/off Vibrate/Light and have Snooze (preferably LCD, not LED Display), Let me know. It MUST BE Reliable!!!

I use my iPhone 4. It vibrates and flashes when the alarm goes off.

Anyone try the vibrating watch? I'm curious if they work very well.

Does Captel phone work well if you have no hearing?

I've had my Sonic Alert, Sonic Boom for almost 18years now - and haven't had any problems with it at all and use it daily.

Most of the Sonic Boom's have a 5 year warranty, so if anything goes wrong you just send it to them and they repair/replace it for free!

I have a house full of Sonic Alert items, and the only thing I've had issues with was a contact on a room signaller - which was repaired via Sonic Alert quickly and painlessly :)

It's recommended that all signallers are connected via a surge protection powerbar/outlet. This not only prevents power surge issues, but also "noise" that can cause the signallers to "mis-alert" (espeically in apartments/condos etc with multiple tenants, even if the electric is isolated for billing purposes etc)

If you're having problems with your Sonic Boom, I'd suggest emailing them directly and seeing if they might be able to repair the alarm clock for you.

If you're looking for a very good, workhorse clock I'd recommend the Sonic Alert SB1000 or SB1000ss

Used to own two in the early 2000's but lost them.
They were great watches.

I find for alerting during the day (and even at night), my blackberry does a better job than any vibrating watches I've seen.

The Captel phone is functionally the same as any VCO (Voice Carry Over) phone. The advantage/difference with the Captel phones is the automated Relay connection and that you have a phone number that routes incoming calls automatically through the Captel Relay service. Provided someone is comfortable using their voice (and their voice is clearly understandable to strangers) and they are able to read the visual text display (where the relayed text scrolls) then the Captel works fine regardless of how Hoh or deaf you are.

I've had vibrating watches twice. It works good but didn't last long due to battery and it broke less than a year of usage. That was 15 years ago. I'm sure newer vibrating watch are lot better than it were 15 years ago.

Had Blackberry Curve 8330 before Android phone, It somehow slipped out of pillow and it killed itself (battery drained out from constant vibrating). Not worth it.

Nice....

but....... (I don't mean being a "butter")

I prefer NO BEEPING sound. Something that I hate the most is the switch settings off/sound/vibrate/vibrate&sound. I prefer Off/Vibrate period. Purely deaf only alarm clock like I said on first thread, something quick and simple without wiggling/jiggling the dicey switch. Remember if you switch wake up setting it tend to wears out and become dicey.

If I can't find any purely Deaf alarm clock, It would means I will have to tear it apart and modify it then put it all back together which will voids warranty. Any speakers/piezoelectric buzzers and multi-selectable switch would be thrown into trash. Simple off/vibrate switch would be used in place. Remember it's called KISS method.

What's the point of loud sounds if you're stone deaf and those who have CI implant in both ears hear virtually nothing!! (Remmy CI implants are like an earplug to ears when not wearing Sound Processors during bedtime) When you're deep sleep or if your "REM" sleep approaching waking up period, Alarms emits loud sound won't benefit at all. Only vibration/light would wake Deafie up. Simple as is.

Radio Shack did sell exactly what Deafie wanted back in 1980's. It was perfect perfect "Deaf" alarm clock on the market and was the most reliable one!. Today's market sells timer clock that plugs into wall instead of table top one and is without a snooze option. (I admit it's a weaklings, because old Radio Shack timer clock can handle 1375 watts output comparing today's timer clock only can go up to 500 watts. no biggie to me.).

I use my blackberry under my pillow, I set the alarm and turn the blackberry off so I don't get woken by emails. Then at the set time it turns itself on, plays the vibe "sound" and will also start alerting me to emails from overnight. I even plug it in so there is plenty of battery power for my day. I have never had a problem with it. Only a couple of times I pushed it off the bed while sleeping. this has worked perfectly as I take the blackberry and charging cable with me on business travel. I just have to make sure the blackberry is pretty close to my head or I do not wake (I'm a deep sleeper). My gf from the other end of the bed will feel it and smack me up side the head if I don't wake fast enough. LOL!

yes, I have this Timex Men's T498519J Rugged Digital Vibration Alarm Watch

you can set 3 different alarms, if I need to set it I will set one alarm at "5:00" and another at "5:10"...it has yet to fail me. Its complicated at first, be sure to read the included instructions

and wired around the face and choke. Or less sleep while more anixous by not try to lose or not get wire around their face.

Exactly what it would happens to baby got its umbilical cord wrapped around the neck and choke off as in layman term. Would you want to deprive yourself oxygen for your brain during sleep if wire wrapped around your neck??

Even if unconscious during sleep, you could yank or unplug cord off the phone and phone dies before it wakes you up. You may be dreaming that you were trying to kill a snake by ripping its head off while actually you rip cord off the phone. Seriously.. It actually happened to me that I was trying to kill glowing red eyed monster by pulling off its neck and after a struggle that I couldn't kill it, I woke up realizing I had my RS clock w/ red LED in my face and pulling its cord connected to clock (not the plug on back) sheesh. I put it back where it belongs.. what a freakish dream!!! :giggle:

Last thing you should worry is to get a bigger battery for phone and lose the cord

Wouldn't you have the same problem with a wired vibrator under your pillow??? As far as I know they do not make any of them wireless...

I never tuck it under pillow, I tucked it between bed matteress and bed matteress support board. It's pretty strong vibration whatsoever. NO worry about cord get wrapped around neck.
