Airport Workers Find Gun in Teddy Bear

ORLANDO, Fla. - Airport security workers found a loaded handgun stuffed inside a brown teddy bear that a 9-year-old boy was carrying on a trip home after his family's Florida vacation, authorities said Thursday.


The FBI (news - web sites) is investigating how the gun got inside the teddy bear.


A Transportation Security Administration worker noticed the outline of a gun when the bear passed through an X-ray machine at Orlando International Airport on Saturday.


The TSA found a loaded .22-caliber gun after the bear was opened. The boy's family told investigators that the bear was a gift from a girl at the hotel where they stayed during their Orlando vacation.


"She appeared at their hotel room door and offered them the bear," said Robert Johnson, a TSA spokesman in Washington. "The mother said it was OK and so the boy took it."


The Miami Herald reported that the gun had been concealed by cutting a half-inch hole at the bottom of the bear, and that the gun had been reported stolen in 1996 in California.


Johnson said the incident "underscores the need to screen everyone and everything no matter how innocent the people or their belongings may appear."


The boy's parents, Robert and Angela Barry of Grove City, Ohio, were questioned by FBI agents and released. The boy turned 10 on Monday.


From her home in suburban Columbus, Angela Barry said she didn't want to talk about what happened until the FBI investigation was finished.


"I want every way possible for them to find out who did this," she said.


The FBI did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.

:shock: That's scary!!! Sheesh, now I have to explain reasons to my boys if they want to take some toys from strangers. :ugh:
 
It make me so maddddddddd for the parents or stranger to set kids up because they knew that they wouldn't look after kids for some reasons but now they are pay attn and set family up to get ticket or jail and lose kids to foster cares or whatever u name it . I really don't appericate how they use kids like weapons or drugs to be smuggle in or out .. since everybody knew that kids are serves less sentence than adults so that where it land on them and have adult being worry free but too bad they trace back to these peoples.

also, Sound like one of these parent stolen the gun and stuff it in the teddy bear would it ??? ummm...
 
:shock: OMFG -- this does serve as an example in point when talking with children abt taking gifts or whatnot from strangers and to always decline the gift offerings if they dont know who the person(s) are -- insane sounds like that girl's parents hid the teddybear and had the girl give to the boy so they wouldnt be still in possession of the gun qq *smh* i hope whoever it was (if the story the boy's family has said is true) is found and questioned in ref to this

Yeow! If anyone offered something to my kid, I'd get the person's name so I could send a "Thank You" card. If the person refused, then I'd call security or the front desk.

I know what you mean.. kids are being taken advantage of it.
 
That's scary for that to happen! :shock: Security has really increased these days since September 11, 2001. *sigh* It's really sad and scary to live in this sort of world with people obsessed in 'declaring' war to other countries and threatening peoples' lives through WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) and the sorts.
 
Sweet jeez I LL never take anything from anyone golly how can they ever put a young kid like that thru hell MY GOD!
 
:shock: That's scary!!! I hope whoever does it get caught and I will make sure my future kids would not take gifts from someone who they doesnt know. It's sad that children are taken advantage of because they are a easy target. But children are people too!!! :mad2: Damn people who do that should be ashamed of themselves!!!
 
There are still people living in our country silently plotting evil schemes to take over our country in any possible ways.
