So I did it. I had the CI for my right ear (worst ear) on Tuesday, Nov 25th. I was a bit nervous the whole time, but more excited than anything. I thought it was so cool in the operating room! There were at least 8 people and everyone had something SPECIFIC to do. I was freaking out because I took a long time breathing in the anesthesia and started thinking "Oh my god! Why am I not falling asleep!? I'm not sleepy at all! What if they start to operate me while Im awake!? Oh my god! Should I zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" Hahaha. I woke up about 3 hours later and started chit chatting with the nurses who were nearby. They thought I wasn't in pain at all because I was so talkative. I said "Oh no no I'm in a lot of pain, I just talk too much." So they gave me 2 bouts of morphine... mmm morphine. As soon I was rolled out, I see my dad first and he JUMPED right up and started waving to the other family members yelling "VICKY'S HERE!! VICKY'S HERE!!!". It was such a funny sight. I didn't experience ANY nausea nor dizziness at ALL. I had plenty of pain and definitely had to take painkillers. Surgery went well, there were no problems. I took off the head wrap yesterday and um wow I'm kinda disappointed by the incision. You BARELY can see it! They didn't even shave my head!!!! Wtf, yo?! Today, (Happy Thanksgiving to all of you by the way!!) I still have pain and very sore all over my back, sides, chest, and head (but it may have to do with my awkward sleeping position). Check out my pictures! Theres: Before surgery, an hour after waking up (like my new hairdo?), and after removing the headwrap. Sorry if the pictures grosses out anyone, I know, I know Im gross! :)

Congratulations! I am glad your incision was much smaller, and they didn't shave your hair. Well, take lots of rest and don't eat too much turkey! LOL

congratulations! :D when I had both of my ci surgeries, the nurses pumped me up with morphine too and i also felt *really* good.

by the way, out of curiosity, what ci brand did you choose?

Congratulations, and happy to hear this was such a positive experience for you. All the wishes that it continues the same.

I chose Nucleus Freedom. Dark brown and SILVER baby! Activation is Dec 22nd, I think. I would have it earlier but I had the surgery in Miami (to be with family) but I live in Alabama, so I set up the surgery so that I'd have the surgery around Thanksgiving time and activation around X-mas time. I save time off from work this way!

You will be activated on 2 of my neices' birthday. That is a good luck sign!

do you mean your processor is silver and the coil brown?

christmas is going to be an exciting time for you this year! :D

I get 2 processors! So they allowed me to choose 2 different colors, so I got a set (processor+coil) in dark brown and another set in silver. They also let me choose to have different colors in the processor + coil but I decided to have sets of the same color. I'm partial to the silver one. I picked dark brown in case I wanna "hide" or something which I don't see happening anyway!

X-mas is definitely gonna be interesting this year.... I already told my little cousins that I am 2% robot and I will be "activated" on X-mas, so they are all excited to see the "robot" me.

And yay Jillio, sounds like good luck to me! :)

i originally wanted a silver processor because it looked high-tech, but changed my mind after hearing about the paint chipping off. (ever since then, cochlear has corrected this problem.)

i also received 2 processors. both of them (including coils) are black so they match my wardrobe.

you have become an official "cyborg." you have been assimilated. resistance is futile. welcome to our collective. :D

Hello, and Welcome to CI life. Congrats on your easy operation, Mine was a breeze, I had no pains at all as well as no dizzy etc, I guess we are so lucky!

I have brown processor, as UK Citizen i only allow one CI. So i chose Chocolate brown as it's nearest match to my hair.

Congrats!!!
And you mean they actually fed you? From the time they woke me up to the time I was out the door in a wheel chair was about a half hour. No morphine for me, but that's ok, as I didn't need it. And the cocktail they gave me knocked me out before I ever reached the operating room. The only thing I breathed in through the mask was oxygen. I suppose that is why I was up and out so fast too..a different type of anesthesia.
How cool that they didn't have to shave you! No funky hats or scarves for you! I wore mine for a few days and then said the heck with it. If you don't like what you see, don't look. :giggle:

Congratulations and good luck with recovery. As the only one I know of with about the same loss as myself to get CI, I am going to be very interested to find out how you like it and how you feel the differences are.

Congrats! Going to be a lot of activations on here in December. I am getting impatient.
