Hello

I'm a hearing person, but I have a paper to do for a class and the assignment has to do with a physical disability. I decided to do deafness, but for part of the assignment I have to find at least 5 things (preferably things that can be photographed) in the environment that are less accessible for a deaf person than a hearing person. (A colorblind person for example may have trouble distinguishing between red and green on a stoplight). I've found that this is more difficult than I thought. Does anyone have any examples they can share?

Thanks

How about the phone? We can't use a regular phone without having to use a TTY and relay.

Also, how about a TV without closed captions? We need closed captions to understand the TV show.

I'm hearing, but what about "flashers" for the doorbell? The deaf can't hear when someone is at the door, so some use a light to signal when someone is at the door.

Deafies find it difficult to go to a movie theatre on a date because there are no captions on most theatre movies. We have to wait until they come out in DVD.

TV without captioning. A teacher giving a lecture without an interpreter.

Fire alarm!! Deaf people can't hear it and have to get "flasher" hooked up to the fire alarm so they can see it go off when there is a fire. Easy thing to take picture of.

Pay phones without a tty hooked up to them

In a meeting or group of hearing people talking without signing.

Yep, or talking without first identifying who is speaking so the deaf person has a chance to turn and face the speaker.
