Bars and resturants are concerned that banning smoking will affect their business negatively, but look at other states/cities like NYC, California, etc. They may struggle at first but they'll eventually adapt and blossom. I'm hoping for anti-smoking to pass so I can enjoy going to deaf social and leave without smelling like an ashtray.

There're alot of Germans smoke outdoor than indoor automaic. We have area for smoker and non-smoker in any resturants but most German smokers prefer to eat non-smoking area and smoke outside.
Common of German smoke outside before go into any shops, that's why the government see no necassary to make a law to ban smokers.
There're more and more Germans give up smoking since Euro convertion.

Yes, it was long time ago... Now no more. No smoke allow in the office but smoking room or outside accord Public Health Department "law".
In the Fachhochschule where I attended school, they had this one corner for smokers only, and the rest of the building was smoke-free.
Yes, there are still the same as usual. They have like this in every school or buildings.
Many of my German friends, even smokers, will not smoke in houses. They go outside to smoke.
Yes, it´s very common that Germans smoking outside. They respect non-smokers when they don´t like to have them to smoke in their house or in their car.
As for Utah... we have a public smoke ban, banning smoking within 15 feet of any building. It's very weakly enforced though. My workplace has a special booth for smokers outside, it's like a bus stop but it's enclosed somewhat. It's 15 feet from the building.
Many of the nightclubs are non-smoking in Utah. When we go to restaurants, we take it for granted that the whole restaurant is non-smoking. When we went to Colorado recently, we were not used to the "smoking or non-smoking" question.

I heard that in California, there are many bars and nightclubs that are non-smoking.

Also, even when you've quit smoking, you're still an smoker...just labeled as an ex-smoker...so I think I'm in the wrong room, too.
I need an ex-smoker room...where's the nearest exit?
