When your normal gait is a waddle, it can be hard to tell if you've had a few too many drinks.
Such was the case with Star, the duck who couldn't hold his alcohol, when a friendly trip to the pub turned into a barroom brawl with a dog named Meggie.
Star the duck is already famous in England where he became a sensation after being adopted by Barrie Hayman. Hayman and Star go everywhere in town together — to the grocery store, to events where they raise money for charity with their double act, and even to the pub.
The Old Courthouse Inn, Star's favorite drinking spot according to the Cheddar Valley Gazette, was the scene of the drunken altercation. Reports say Star dipped his beak in a few pints before Meggie the teetotaling dog, also owned by Hayman, decided enough was enough. The two stared each other down, the weight of words unsaid pressing down on them, until Meggie lunged.
When the pair were separated, thing didn't look good for ducky. Star's bottom beak was split down the middle, and he was rushed to the vet.
"We had hours and hours of stress and waiting around," Hayman told the Gazette. "The vets are really pleased with his progress. He seems to be bouncing back nicely which is good."
But, alas, Star's drinking days may be at an end. Although vets told Hayman Star's beak injury shouldn't affect his famous quack, it's probably safer if he avoids the tavern scene.
Meggie the dog was unavailable for comment.
