Some states have sales tax on groceries. I remember the first time I went grocery shopping in South Carolina I was shocked when I found out there was sales tax on food.Since when is there taxes on eggs ??? And how awful her check was lost or I am guessing stolen . That was very kind of the cop to buy her some eggs .
I know there are cops that do care about people but those stories do not made the news b/c they do not made enough $$$...

Yeah, the check problem--that's why most agencies require direct deposit now.

North Carolina has the food tax too and has 2 different sales tax rates. Food has a 2% sales tax and everything else is 6.75% sales tax
why is tax not uniform all over country
States have independent taxes from Federal. Taxes or not on food are State.
