I looked at the US map of the daytime temps. It looks like most of the US is in the 90's and 100's or so. It looks like a VERY hot summer they're having there.
Death Valley in California is scorching in the 120+ degrees in the day time and going down to a sizzling 90-95 degrees at night time. I recently learned that Death Valley averages about 5 heat related deaths per year there. It IS dangerous to go out there in the middle of the summer! If you don't bring your supplies, like water, emergency supplies, etc. You wouldn't last more than 4 hours out in Death Valley.
Here in Seattle is having a cool 74 degrees also with San Francisco at 75 or so, too. The cool spots are in very high mountains, coastal regions of the West US, etc...so far for now.
So far there's a few heat related deaths somewhere in the South. Remember the 700+ deaths in Chicago heat wave in 1995? That was terrible!
It's pretty extreme for 2006! I don't remember much about 90's and 100's covering that much of the United States.
