With proper names, it's common, especially since they have so many different countries of origin.


We're bad about it here in the South, too.


In SC:


Cooper River (Kuppah)


Huger (U-G; as in you-gee)


Gaillard (Gil-yard)


Beaufort (Byoo-ferd)


Snowden (Snow-don; not like snow but like "ow!")


Hasell St. (Hazel)


Mazyck St. (Maa-zeek)


In North Carolina, the city is Charlotte (Shar'-let); in Michigan, their city is Charlotte (Shar-lot').
