Estimated 8-14 Storms Could Strengthen Into Hurricanes

MIAMI -- The 2010 Atlantic hurricane season has begun and comes at a time when oil from a spill off the Louisiana coast continues spewing into the Gulf of Mexico.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting an active season, with as many as 23 named tropical storms.

An estimated eight to 14 storms could strengthen into hurricanes. Of those storms, three to seven could become major hurricanes.

While scientists seem to agree that the sprawling oil slick in the Gulf isn't likely to affect the formation of a storm, the real worry is that a hurricane might turn the millions of gallons of floating crude into a crashing black surf.

The first named storm of this Atlantic hurricane season, which runs through Nov. 30, will be called Alex.

Ah opening of the season.....anticipation in the air, hopes for a better summer, hot dogs..........wait that's baseball season.

8-14 seems like a pretty vague estimate.....

That's the key. Put out vague estimates that'll give room to backpeddle just in case.

Yeah, the season started yesterday and today and for the next 3-5 days, we are dealing with flooding rains, high winds and all. Son had to clean up 27 branches out of the yeard and our trees were trimmed and all. Neighbors had full thick limbs break off their tree and land in the swimming pool. Winds blew roof tiles off and luckily we have another 25-30 tiles. MIL's roof tiles are no longer available. Hubby replace them this evening before tomorrow's storm. We spent 3 hours with no electricity. I love Florida Flicker & Flash (Florida Power & Light).

Gotta love Florida weather during hurricane season.

Sigh . . . don't remind me.

The BP better to hurry their sorry asses up and shut that friggin' pipe before a hurricane come over and party it up.
