OAK ISLAND, NC (WECT) -
Two teenagers, a girl and a boy, were reportedly bitten by sharks in Oak Island Sunday evening.
According to Oak Island Mayor Betty Wallace, the female victim lost part of her arm and could lose her left leg. She is not from Oak Island but was visiting family.
Brunswick County Dispatchers said that they received the call at 4:12 p.m.
Several agencies responded to the scene near the Ocean Crest Motel, including Oak Island Police and Fire, St. James Fire, Brunswick EMS and the Air Link Helicopter.
The second incident was reported at 5:30 this afternoon. Wallace said the victim is a 16-year-old boy. The mayor said he lost an arm.
He was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Wallace said the Oak Island town manager is sending an ATV to get everyone out of the water.
Wallace added that the Brunswick County Sheriff's office is going to send a helicopter up and down the coast to patrol.
Red flags have reportedly been hoisted at most of the Brunswick County beaches.
According to Oak Island Town Manager Tim Holloman, there will be press conference Sunday night at 9:30 p.m. at Ocean Crest Pier. There will be another press conference at Monday morning at 9 a.m.
