confused mother ..dont know which one..asl? see?

PSE (Pidgin Sign English) is a hybrid of ASL and SEE. Generally, using ASL signs in English word order and without the articles and the suffix endings like "-ing". There might be some other name for it now. Contact Sign - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

confused mother ..dont know which one..asl? see?

Good question! In my opinion, SEE/SEE2 are ideal for an academic settings, especially when developing the mastery of the English language. Especially when education on prefix, suffix, stems, tense, articles, etc are important for your children to learn and associate, like the -ing endings. In...

When someone is a CI candidate, whats the odds of hearing better?

SteveESP52, thank you for the explanation. I learned something new, and a perfect technical answer to one of my questions :) Thank you for taking the time to help clarify it for me.

When someone is a CI candidate, whats the odds of hearing better?

I am curious, what is the formula determination that the CI centers use, and as well as the one that you have devised? In other words, how do you perform your calculations? I'm sure that there's a lot of variables and considerations held in your formula. Perhaps, it would be helpful for us to...

Very Interesting...a simulation of normal hearing vs. 24 channel CI simulation

In my case, it's probably because I'm not well educated on the technical details on CI as it relates to frequency perception. I do admit that I have been slacking up on my CI reading this weekend (including the personal blogs that I said I'd read - forgive me!). While cochlear hairs have hairs...

    Hearing aid Loop

Oh, just FYI... the model that I got was monaural, not stereo. I don't know if there's a stereo neckloop... I'm not sure how a stereo one would work

    Hearing aid Loop

Yep, it should have a standard headphone jack (3.5mm). You probably want to get a audio extension cable as well since the neckloop is kind of short. Unless, you like being up close with your laptop. Any 3.5mm audio extension cable will do... that cable can be found at Target, etc.

    Hearing aid Loop

Yes, there is. I got one a while back. Something like this is what you're looking for: Neckloop Telecoil Coupler - Adult Size If you look around, you might find it for a cheaper price. I'm not affiliated with ADCO, blah blah disclaimer... and I didn't even sleep in a Holiday Inn last night.

Is it offensive to sign in public?

:laugh2: That reminds me of when I taught my science teacher in high school how to say "good morning." He was so proud of himself for learning it, that he wanted to share with the rest of my class. He said, "hey! Look at what he taught me to sign... Good morning!" He, of course, bumbled it all...

    My Numbers

I understand about the phone being your enemy. I can use the phone, but holy cow, it can be pure torture without VRS if I can't understand the other person. Good thing I don't have to pick up the phone when they call, but can call them back. :) As for the alarm clock, if you haven't already...

Very Interesting...a simulation of normal hearing vs. 24 channel CI simulation

I was looking in the clinical trials for cochlear implants last night (Home - ClinicalTrials.gov). I recall seeing one where they implant a short length electrode array to preserve higher frequency cochlear hairs for later medically-facilitated evolution, e.g. stem cells. If you're wondering...

Very Interesting...a simulation of normal hearing vs. 24 channel CI simulation

I agree that CI's aren't right for everyone, but for the right set of people, they're perfect. It occurred to me late last night, that I did go through some sound distortion and brain re-tuning with my hearing aids a long while back when I switched from analog to digital. It did sound bizarre at...

Transitioning from HA to CI... how do you know when you're ready to make the jump?

I'm online now, but about to run off for a bit. I'll be back on in an hour and half (12EDT/11CDT).

Transitioning from HA to CI... how do you know when you're ready to make the jump?

It's not. I wouldn't get a CI for that. That's what VRS is for. :)

That's pretty good, much better than mine :)

Very Interesting...a simulation of normal hearing vs. 24 channel CI simulation

That's really interesting. Especially since the people with CI's say that it's not an accurate sampling. I do wonder what the people say when they transition from HA's to CI's. I understand that some people with CI's hear better than HA's, but I don't know what it means, especially when...

    When you pass.

:laugh2: I like that response. Though for me, I don't really care one way or another if I'm cremated or buried. I don't need a fancy box either. No reason or need to be a financial burden on the living.

Transitioning from HA to CI... how do you know when you're ready to make the jump?

Done, though it seems like my handle on the blog is my IM handle, I goofed on the OpenID-AIM process  ... so please delete it when you get it :)

Transitioning from HA to CI... how do you know when you're ready to make the jump?

You are right, they are pretty similar. Mine's slightly worse, and my left ear seems to be like yours used to be. I'll have to figure out how to PM you my IM handle. I think I saw something somewhere that I had to get 50 posts before I could PM. Not sure on that. I guess I better get posting!

Transitioning from HA to CI... how do you know when you're ready to make the jump?

Thank you all for your comments, and feedback. I appreciate the insights you have all provided. For deafdude1 who requested it (and others who are curious), my audiogram: Left Ear (the better ear): Right Ear (the worse ear): This is slightly different from what I said earlier, I thought it...
