How do you cope with LOUD tinnitus at night?

Some people claim that their tinnitus disappears completely never to return. I'm not claiming that. Just saying it is a bit quieter now so I'm able to sleep instead of having a washing machine on spin besides my head at night  I hope the loud b*$t*rd never returns, but I'm realistic...

What are you doing right now?

I'm lying in bed in the middle of the day. Why? It's cold and the heating is off and this is the warmest place for me.

How do you cope with LOUD tinnitus at night?

Update on my sleep stealing tinnitus I know that it isn't good practice to resurrect an old thread, but I wanted to give an update on my loud tinnitus problem. Basically, over time, my tinnitus got a little quieter so I now sleep through most nights. There was no cure or single thing I did...

Mattress (Bed) Type VS Vibrating Alarm Clock?

For last few years I've used Alarm C. I put it under the pillow (& inside the pillow case to stop it slipping out). I'm a heavy sleeper and the under the mattress vibrating alarms don't work as well as under the pillow for me.

    Annoying ignorant hearing people stories

I have a mobile phone (or should I call it a cellphone since most of you reading this will be Americans? ;) ) for SMS text messages. Being deaf, I don't use it for voice calls, so my voicemail states very clearly "Please do NOT leave a message as I'm deaf and cannot hear it. Instead, send a text...

    your smartphone history?

In the UK we often have different names for the same models. I was one of the first users of smartphones here. Only when the iPhone came out here in the UK in 2007 did they start becoming popular. 2004 - O2 Xda IIs (HTC Blue Angel) 2007 - O2 Xda Trion (HTC Hermes/TyTN) 2007/8? - Blackberry 8800...

Boring I know, but whats your most liked Wine of 2012?

Could be this one. Though I totally disagree with the person writing "Smooth" in the tasting notes. It was as smooth as a stubble on a hedgehog! http://http://www.snooth.com/wine/la-corte-negroamaro-puglia-igt-vigne-vecchie-2006/

Boring I know, but whats your most liked Wine of 2012?

The most memorable wine I had last year was a 100% Negroamaro from the Puglia region of Italy. Unfortunately I can't find my tasting notes. I think it was a 2008 bottling, and it came in a distinctive bottle shape (very heavy) with a blue label. Scrolling through a few wine websites has failed...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

Just wanted to reassure you and encourage you that you are doing the best you can. As someone going through a similar deafness journey, I know how difficult it is to adapt and make these fundamental changes to your life. Most people don't have this progressive hearing loss forced upon them...

Brave new world of the NHS in the UK which hearing aid?

I forgot to add: The Oticon Streamer is not on the NHS. I had to purchase it myself and then get the NHS audiologist to programme it for me

Carved Shell Silicone Ear Molds..better for severe to profound.

Same here. Jaw aches from keeping it open for so long waiting for ear impressions to harden. And it's weird when you mouth dries up but you can't moisten it. Uncomfortable. But you get very close fitting molds as a result that minimise the annoying feedback.

Brave new world of the NHS in the UK which hearing aid?

Go for the NHS Oticon to start with. As Bottesini writes - they're free! Not everyone likes wearing hearing aids, and they often end up in a box unused. But if you do, and you find you really really need the best and latest model, then you have something to compare against. You may find the...

Any One Here Suffer From A Mental Disorder?

Michel Foucault, a C20th French philosopher, had some very interesting things to say on madness and mental illness. He draws attention to how society - or in particular, the medical profession - treats people who are perceived to be suffering from madness. He argues that some people who are...

What was the last movie you watched?

Underworld - Awakening I was going to be witty and rename it Underworld - Sleeping but it's not THAT dull. I've watched all the Underworld films and they're OK. They're silly amusing films IMO. It also helps that this film is quite short. And I'm a soft touch for action heroines that remind me...
