There are more and more plans that cover--at least partially-hearing aids. Again, it's not the insurance company that dictates the coverage, it's the company that buys the plan that picks the features and most companies won't pay the extra to have hearing aid coverage.

I've lived in both worlds....the hearing world is FAR superior....keep implanting babies so they have a chance to live in the hearing world!!! If they choose not to later, they simply don't wear their processors..easy as that.

I wouldn't hesitate to get 2 implants at the same time then. Had I known how well this was going to go for me I would have done both at once..but I have residual hearing that helps, but I couldn't function with just that hearing. I can't locate sound for anything--never could with my HA's...

Rehab is practice listening to voices, sounds, etc. If you are not doing that, you are not giving your CI a fair shot. I think you are missing out on getting help on Hearing Journey but whatever, it's your choice....

I asked at 3 different MRI places before I got my CI and none of them would do any MRI's on ANYONE with a CI, Med-El or not. They didn't want to risk the liability. Just something to look into. Obviously that is not all of them but, that was what I found out.

Sorry but having both I stand by what I said... I'm not an expert, just a user of both and I never got the sound clarity and ability to hear well with a HA like I have with my CI. Technology has changed in the CI world, a LOT, in 12 years...

Bring one in with you. Bring a Ipad, tablet, cell phone, etc. Honestly, I never got the "right" HA adjustment. It only got worse as my hearing got worse. They just aren't the right equipment for some people and they can only do so much.

I had the same experience at my ENT's office. I ended up going to a different clinic for my CI even. I would have qualified much earlier if someone had said something....but on the flip side, since you are choosing AB, the new electrodes and processor is worth the wait :D
