    Does CI make Deaf hearing?

An amusing story from an elderly CI wearer. My brother-in-law recites this from a church he worked in a couple of years ago. She had gotten her CI and after a couple of months she was doing pretty decently with it. Only one thing she couldn't figure out was this noise she kept hearing in...

    Does CI make Deaf hearing?

Truth be told...<cough...hack...> I never really look forward to turning my CI off "per se". I only do it so I can wind down and get ready to sleep. I don't know how I could ever hear noise while sleeping. So yeah, I'm not sure I would want to be 100% hearing from that standpoint. I have...

    Phone and CI...any similar experience?

In my HA days, I remember that the T-Coil picked up every blinkin' electronic noise like computers and such. That is the main reason why I never bothered with it with my CA. Especially now that with a CI, I can "HEAR" if you know what I mean. Who needs the aggravation?

    Phone and CI...any similar experience?

Yeah, I use the phone quite easily. Landline, cell phone, conference call, it doesn't matter to me. The main thing is not to be trying to do a phone call in a very noisy environment. That can be challenging to say the least. I have done it but one has to concentrate totally on the...

    Does CI make Deaf hearing?

I say it depends on one's perspective and ability. With mine on, I'm hearing for all practical purposes. I use the phone, conduct conference calls, do all the things the Romans do in Rome. From that standpoint, I can do what they do for the most part. Why wouldn't I consider myself...

    Hey nearly 3 months now!!!!

Since I was part of a study with my CI in the beginning, I got real familiar with the programs they provided me. They wanted to try all kinds of things. I even got to experience different refresh rates up to 2400 cpi (I settled for 1800 cps - partly due to battery burn rates :D). The pgm...

    MSP cochlear Implant

A very good point! This is something I have been thinking about for a while. That and the fact that the transmitter coil is two separate pieces has me seriously considering going to the N5 from the Freedom. My (now) backup controller button is basically squashed flat and makes extremely...

    Hey nearly 3 months now!!!!

I'm sorry to hear that no one will take the time to help you using a phone. Hopefully, you can find somebody to help you. What may help is listening to talk radio all the time. That will sharpen your listening skills.

    Hey nearly 3 months now!!!!

Yeah, that was the biggest drawback to the whole thing. My lipreading skills definitely went south big time. I have totally switched over to listening mode like the hearing (you know what I mean). In those rare times I'm without my CI (first thing in the morning, and etc.) my wife will not...

    Hey nearly 3 months now!!!!

I started using it day two after activation to talk with my wife. Day four I had a long conversation with my brother in Texas. I would say within a week or two I could use it comfortably. It kind of went hand in hand as I got better with my CI in general. In a couple of months after...

Speech Pathology Student needs assistance again!

I'm a former HA wearer and now have a CI. 1) From the age of 3 to 47. 2) My mom had me checked out and I got my HA at 3. 3) I would wear it about 14 hrs a day. 4) It was very beneficial for many years. I had more trouble toward the end before I got my CI due to progressive hearing loss. 5) I...

    Hey nearly 3 months now!!!!

To clarify, auditory memory does play an important role. I was just trying to say there are too many variables at play think any one thing is the trick for great outcomes. Deaffy had the benefit of prior hearing to work with and that definitely helped him. I had other things along with...

    Yay $100 HAs!

Don't feel bad. I didn't read that closely either and the title really threw me off. CBE saved me from an inane remark. :D

    Hey nearly 3 months now!!!!

Not necessarily so. I never had 100% hearing but I hear with my CI as if I had hearing at one time. To put it succinctly, I'm one of those high achievers with a CI and using the phone all the time and on it goes. BTW - That was my point! Auditory memories are just one part of the equation.

    Pain in the CI area?

Take care of that with the doctor. I have several friends with a CI or two and several years at that. None of them including myself have experienced what you are dealing with.

    Hey nearly 3 months now!!!!

Would that be so, then why doesn't everybody have the same outcome? That is part of the story but a part of it is the person themselves. Been there done that...

    A Cure

AMEN! CIs are far better than HAs anyday and for those who need a reality check...I have had both. The question of day...Why is it that everybody got an opinion...especially when they have no experience themselves?

    Wow! AB's Harmony vs. Cochlear's Nucleus 5!

All I know is that my audi told me the person who has 60 has a cochlear. She mentioned that I should eventually reach that given my ability with my CI.

    Wow! AB's Harmony vs. Cochlear's Nucleus 5!

That is great! I do know there aren't many that high! Hopefully, in the next couple of years I will be close to that. That being said, having a CI implies there is some upper limit and I suppose that depends on several factors.
