    IEP help

Hi I've been reading this thread and want to say that if the opportunity is there for a child to learn, the child WILL learn in his own time and his own way. Provide TV, books, sign/voice, whatever is good for the child. I'm deaf with two hearing children. I'm not the best voice so I leave...

Just your thoughts and opinion on things.

Oh yea, they're called bratty kids. There is one across the street from me. Sometimes she's nice. Sometimes she gets extremely rude. I've seen her fight with her mom few times. She's only 7! When she was here once, my daughter started feeling real bad.....so I limit visits. Better in group...

    Emergency Room Waiting

I live in a semi-rural area. The hospital in my county is 45 minutes away. There are two regional hospitals 2o minutes away. I've used the two hospitals in the next county--12 miles away but the wait times are extremely long! No matter what time you get there, still a long time. The hospital 45...

    Emergency Room Waiting

My parents too. They live on a farm, with a long dirt road with only 3 neighbors. Someone needed an ambulance and they went to my parent's farm. Whoops so the county/USPS had to rework the house numbers. Now I know they will be taken care of if they ever call an ambulance.:D

Damn you George W. Bush and the Wall Street fatcats

Great posting, Linux. Uum, the gov't will eventually catch up with whoever not paying taxes. My guy didn't pay his taxes for years. When I found out, I said "you wait and see." They will catch you and make you pay. I was right about 8 yrs later, and everything shook out just fine but I had to...

    Military-Like Kids Groups?

Brownies, Girl Scouts. Towards the end, I didn't like it anymore except the cookies! ROTC would have been cool but I wasn't going into the military. If I could hear, I would have have liked to be in the Air Force. I love the sky~!

Holland Township family angry that supermarket won't personalize cake for their son

How's this for a child? Anakin Foe? First name, you can guess where that one came from! Last name is the dad's name. Ex-con dad who does not care what is best for the baby son.

    Snow Skiing (What's your level?)

I'm like a ski instructor without certification(Advanced). My last student was a friend from Malaysia. She's a great skier now, living out in Colorado. My former stepdad taught us to ski when we were toddlers. We went all the time most of our lives. Since I moved to Fl, I skied only three...

Holland Township family angry that supermarket won't personalize cake for their son

Adolf Hilter did not bear any children, but his brother did. They are both in their 40's-50's and live on the south shore of Long Island, NY. They made a pact NOT to have children so the family name would not go on. This family of Adolf Hilter dies out with these two.

    Equestrian rider denied interpreter

Interpreter for what? I ask because those teams compete in shows between schools, mostly like sporting events. It sounds like UK would have denied an interpreter for any sporting events. Most of the key information is between team member and the coach, team meetings etc. I am sorry but I am...

Curious: what do our deaf members do for a living?

How much is a LIRR ticket between Ronkonkoma and Penn Station? It was around $8 when I commuted to work in NYC before leaving LI for Miami.

    Horizontal violence in Deaf community

This may be hazy but I've noticed Blacks giving each other a harder time at times than giving others of different ethnic orgins. I am not sure about Hispanics and Asians. Never paid too much attention to the last two. Hispanics definitely stick together, and whites too if they are part of the...

Vardon Family to lose Extreme Makeover House

It appears to me that the family was probably doing well until the medical issues started to happen. They then refianced a paid-off house into a new mortage to help pay for the bills then it reset once or reset a couple more times to 11%. Anyone with an ARM would get low payments for a few...

    Raising Children

And telling my daughter if she acted up, she will have to stay home instead of shopping me the next time. She knows I'd ditch her if I have to. LOL

    Deep Impact

Hey Lucia! I can't PM you or do anything else in this forum. I wanted you to know that I have not forgotten you with the decoder. I gotta find a box for it to fit in and then get it estimated for costs at the post office. You still want the decoder? It's Sears Solid State TeleCaption. It's very...

'Hero Dog' Pulls Injured Friend From Oncoming Traffic

This happened in Chile. The dog being dragged by the hero dog was confirmed dead from impact but a lot of Chileans are looking for the hero dog to adopt him. I don't know if he has been found or not at this time. I hope they find him so he would have a good life off the streets.

Were you deaf and 'gifted' ?

I should mention that I got into trouble in deaf school due to bordeom until I got promoted mid-year to a class with kids three years older than me, one four years older. Then the oldest kid (who was a FRIEND for few years before!) started to taunt me. Even the teacher was flabbergasted that I...

    Horizontal violence in Deaf community

Wow, this is all new to me. Never experienced all four. Even though I've been mistaken few times as an interpreter in college. However, does getting a very bad grade in a deaf centered Human Sexuality course from a deaf teacher count? Even if I got 93% on the final exam? I got a D for the...
