Cellphone with front facing camera coming soon to the US!

Your link itself was updated on 5/29 with a direct statement from Qik saying that's inaccurate - point to point video calling will still be free, just some premium features (I'm guessing stuff like multi-video conferencing) would be $5. Just to make it easier to find the source, here's the...

    myth about vrs going away

Would VP-200s even be working, assuming the worst case came to light?

Cellphone with front facing camera coming soon to the US!

Qik is the software that Sprint is promoting as their EVO video software. As posted earlier in this thread, it did very well. So I'm betting it has more to do with just a poor version of Fring being put out on the marketplace to be "first" even though the video quality isn't good enough for...

FCC threatens to destroy VRS by mismanagement

You're absolutely right. I said "VRS interpreting" when I meant to say "interpreter certification." I still think Sorenson needs to make it into a school and cert program, where they make money off of people wanting to graduate with an interpreting degree, like ITT or University of Phoenix...

FCC threatens to destroy VRS by mismanagement

VRS is not an interpreter training program. It is an accessibility right to use the telephone. The FCC has stated that "TRS providers are responsible for requiring that VRS CAs are qualified interpreters. A “qualified interpreter” is able to interpret effectively, accurately, and impartially...

FCC threatens to destroy VRS by mismanagement

The FCC outlined that 11.25% return on investment is enough profit. That's why they took the costs of VRS for the past year, extrapolated it out for future growth projections, then added 11.25% on top of that. That's "ENOUGH PROFIT" for a GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIZED service. If you were paying...

    Fcc plan cut vrs

The FCC gets to set the limit for ONE YEAR. Guess what companies can do if they want to be more profitable during that year? Cut costs and become MORE EFFICIENT. That's it. But they WILL be profitable. The only question will be, is it enough profit for some greedy head honchos without...

    Sorenson's scare tactic is pathetic

VRSCA is a front organization for Sorenson. Video Relay Services Consumer Association - Association of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Video Relay Services Consumers Q: Whose idea was it to set up VRSCA? A: VRSCA was first established in 2002 by Sorenson Communications with the intention of...

    Fcc plan cut vrs

TDI's perspective on VRS rates TDI is a pretty neutral organization - they're asking people to request that the FCC make sure the rate is enough for 3 items: 1) High quality VRS 2) Marketing and Outreach 3) Tech R&D All those items are included in the rate as considered by the FCC, in my...

    Fcc plan cut vrs

Sorenson (the person, NOT the business!) gave the money so that people LIKE YOU would go "oh good heart! I'll trust them, they gave money to deaf!" That's EXACTLY what they wanted. What if they gave money to another school for an interpreter organization there, like in Utah instead? You...

    Sorenson's scare tactic is pathetic

Wow, Purple's opening on the vlog is actually pretty darn reasonable, and captures exactly what the community needs to hear from a VRS provider.

FCC threatens to destroy VRS by mismanagement

Your analogy has NOTHING to do with VRS. You're SO far off base. The FCC has already accounted for all VRS providers' cost averages for each tier, PLUS 11.25% return on investment and an small additional amount for operating expenses. So it's not like a 40% sale - it's saying "you can't...

    Fcc plan cut vrs

The guy gets it completely wrong. His analogy about "imagine you have an employee who has been working for your company 5, 10, 15 years" - WAY OFF. It has nothing to do with "experience" and everything to do with "market rate" of services. That is ALL. You need to stop trying to confound...

    Sorenson's scare tactic is pathetic

If you add up ALL the minutes for the month for all the VRS providers, and take 70% of that, and you compare that 70% number to (500,000 plus the 3rd tier total minutes).... that'll tell ya if you're right or wrong on the market share computation.

    Sorenson's scare tactic is pathetic

If someone was smart enough to do the math, I bet that they could get a real good estimate of the # of minutes per month Sorenson does just by looking here: https://www.neca.org/cms400min/WorkArea/linkit.aspx?LinkIdentifier=id&ItemID=3326 All you'd need to do is make an assumption about...

    Fcc plan cut vrs

NO. You did the math wrong. For your example, 700,000 minutes, the VRS providers still get paid $3,014,993.00 for the 500,000 minutes. The next 200K minutes then get paid $778,000.00, bringing your total to $3,792,993. That's still a lot of money! And for what it's worth, Sorenson is...

FCC threatens to destroy VRS by mismanagement

You make absolutely no sense at all. Sorenson does not want any competition. They blocked everyone from using their VPs to make VRS calls to any other relay company for several years, until the FCC finally made a decision to require them to open it up. Sorenson laughed all the way to the...

    Fcc plan cut vrs

Not one of the nine VRS companies is actually threatening to close up shop. Only that they are threatening to protest the loss of their profits by maybe taking away your VP, or laying off interpreters, or doing anything else other than reducing their bonuses or not buying a vacation home for...

Those are WiFi speeds, man. Definitely not a cellular service unless you're using 4G technology like Sprint's Overdrive.
