VRS: Our Economic Power? By Ryan Commerson

The video is very long (I would need a day off from work and a bowl of popcorn) but I did skip along a few places to get a few things. I am curious and anyone can fill in (much to my appreciation!): 1. How can we invest in these programs and technologies if they are funded mainly by our...

    Toledo Deaf Club considers closing

Wouldn't it be more cost effective to move to a cheaper area of the town? I know that Deaf clubs in Pittsburgh and Los Angeles also experienced huge changes in their neighborhoods. Security is not worth keeping history connected to the same building, and history can still go on at a new site.

Miley cyrus and starkey hearing foundation to bring help to haiti…again

I am on my lunch break at work so I can't do much intensive research yet till I get home. So I was wondering if Miley is truly interested in deaf people because of the Deaf culture or because deaf people hear less music than hearing people. Sympathy or empathy?

'Amazing and horrible' Medford man is tackling the Pacific Crest Trail in silence

So are you saying that if it's too dangerous for a hearing person, a deaf person shouldnt do it?

How come I never hear of deaf billionaire?

Love could be blind, maybe she turned the cheek, maybe she doesn't care, who knows? As for the divorce, it also depends on what was listed on a prenup if she signed one.

How come I never hear of deaf billionaire?

To the people doing the math on house prices and incomes, are you forgetting that a mortgage can be ten years, fifteen years, twenty years, and thirty years? Assuming the mortgage is 20 years, the monthly payment could be $3750 (plus interest, insurance, taxes, etc). 30 years = $2500+ per...

How come I never hear of deaf billionaire?

Actually, it shouldn't be any harder to find him because he has an employer ID that must be listed on all business and tax records. If someone finds that he's married, someone could easily look up his wife's records to find where they are living. Plus, the courts could issue an order for his...

    Facebook bans teacher&student for friends

Yeah, especially for DHH students and their teachers of the deaf because they typically share closer bonds on cultural grounds. Though, it's best to wait until after graduation.

Deaf people are not hearing why do we get flack still?

Yeah, I don't understand why places like Netflix and various entertainment networks don't include captions already designed for shows and movies when showing them on the internet. The captions are already there, so why leave them out?

    Deaf Professionals

The first deaf professionals to come to my mind are the assortment of actors, deaf teachers of the deaf, Evelyn Glennie, Kathy Buckley, Beethoven, Matt Hamill, Keith Nolan, some deaf chiro from Ohio (I forget his name), Sue Thomas, Lou Ferrigno, and so on. In a few years, I will be adding...

How come I never hear of deaf billionaire?

Well, looks like you didn't work to create your own millions of dollars but rather were given millions by your parents. You are taking a quick shortcut to a wealthy life and you are mooching off of your parents. Not that much different from people whom you judged to be lazy, eh? If you look...

Market Basket is Selling Food 5 Days Old.

I do wonder if it was the action of an individual employee. Maybe he/she was too lazy to go put the expired food in claims :P

    Ok, What's Out There?

VRS is free and the hardware and software are given to you for free (well, not a free computer but free software to go on your computer). I do have Sorenson and it does have VCO as well. I am sure Purple does as well and I see Sprint has VRS now. Sprint Relay seems to have smartphones and...

    College Dorm ADA

Dorms are different from apartments. If the OP is going to pay for water, internet, electricity, etc. then there's a good chance that he/she is responsible for everything inside the apartment. You can buy a flashing alarm and ask someone to wire it to the alarm system. Same goes for a...

    Deaf Chiropractor???

When there is an obstacle, alwasy come up with a solution rather than back down. There is a couple of solutions I could think of: 1. the chiro can have mirrors so he/she can see the client's face 2. the client can tap on the table so to let the chiro know to stop (wrestlers and karate...

    learning English

I am deaf and have really good spelling skills. Spelling does not always depend on phonetics. I mean, how many hearing people have lousy spelling skills?? :laugh2: It really irks me when someone doesn't know the difference between its and it's  There are several factors to learning...
