    Wearing beanies

Yes and no. I have no problem telling people that I'm HoH when it's necessary. (As it helps myself in the long run) but I definitely don't like to draw attention to it. For example, a few years ago I went to KFC to order a meal, the worker saw that I wore a HA and before I even said anything...

    Wearing beanies

I like to wear a beanie because they hide my HA. They also prevent it from getting wet. However, I always feel obliged to take it off when I enter a building, especially when I'm in a place where I'm likely to sit. I remember back in my college days, I attended a principal's welcome and we were...

    Deaf Flight Attendent???????

Not really. Those links contain information for deaf people who wish to become a Private Pilot, with significant limitations. (No use of radio) It is virtually unheard of for deaf people to become commercial or airline transport pilots. For example, if you want to become an airline pilot in...

    Deaf Flight Attendent???????

Old thread I see, but nvm! If a HoH person can do the job by having a useful level of hearing, then there's no reason why they shouldn't be able to fulfil this role. However, if they're unable to hear at all, it's unlikely that they will be able to do the job safely. Communication is one of the...

    Can anyone interpret my audiogram?

Yeah, my right ear is aided with an open fit BTE atm. AFAIK my condition isn't progressive but I'm not 100% sure. I don't know much about the causes of progressive hearing loss. Isn't that usually linked to abnormalities with the inner ear? My hearing loss is caused by abnormalities with my...

    Can anyone interpret my audiogram?

Prob is I don't have an open Meatus in my left ear, meaning that sounds can't be amplified by air conducting HA's. I guess this may explain why the hearing loss is so different in that ear.

Ever called someone on being rude to you?

Sometimes people shout at me in an aggressive tone if I mishear them and on some occasions, they assume that I didn't understand them as opposed to being unable to hear what they said. Hearies often say "sorry?" if they're simply confused, even if they heard the speaker perfectly well! Because...

hearing aid size 13 battery 1.4 or 1.45 volts ?

Most small hospitals in towns will provide hearing aids. I just go to the front reception and they keep them there. Parking is often free for small hospitals too.

    Can anyone interpret my audiogram?

Cheers It seems that this proves that I won't meet the hearing standards required to gain a medical certificate for eligibility to fly as an airline pilot, but it doesn't say whether or not HA's can be worn! Audio - JAR Class 1 Hearing Standards | Medical | Safety Regulation Last time I...

    Can anyone interpret my audiogram?

I will ask for more info next time but unfortunately here in the UK, they're allocated a certain amount of time for each patient and I often feel that there's simply not enough time to cover everything. In general, I've often found the internet to be a more helpful resource for gathering...

    Can anyone interpret my audiogram?

Thanks for that. I understood the dB loss at different frequencies but I don't know how to compare it with what's considered to be within the normal range. What type of hearing loss do I have in each ear, in terms of severity?

hearing aid size 13 battery 1.4 or 1.45 volts ?

Out of interest, how much do you guys pay for your batteries? (6 pack) I ask because here, we get them for free and I've no idea how much I'd be spending if it wasn't paid for by the government.

What is the average age group on AD?

Stats can be useful/interesting but only if they gather decent data. 26-45 is a rather largeeeeeeeeeeeee range. :P

    Can anyone interpret my audiogram?

I just scanned a copy of my audiogram and uploaded it to Flickr. It is mostly meaningless to me though. Can anyone interpret it? Link: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1329/5168745185_8247578c86_b.jpg Larger version: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1329/5168745185_e71d9e34d1_o.jpg Cheers :) ExR

Handicapped Parking Permits & Deaf people

Here in the UK you have to have a "disabled parking permit" in order to use "disabled parking bays". While I accept that I have a disability, I certainly don't think I'm disabled, thus I couldn't justify applying for access.
