    Being Deaf in Holographic Universe

First, let me say that this was one of your better blog posts. It was coherent and thought out. Many of the previous ones were more of a rambling rant than worthwhile read. Second, not all religions "save". The people at Deaf Pagan Network wouldn't view themselves as needing "saving". And even...

    Skype ASL (For class)

This was all very interesting, but I'm still left wondering why the OP doesn't actually engage the local Deaf community face to face? Why solicit AllDeaf.com people to interact via Purple or Skype instead of getting to know locals?

Is Gallaudet the Deaf Mecca in America?

I guess you've never actually been to Rochester. It's pretty much like you're describing DC.

    ASL vs SEE in class

Exactly what I was thinking! Well said Reba!

    Open questions to ASL students

I think that varies quite a bit depending on location/culture. I never say 'hello' to random strangers, nor does anyone else where I live. We just go about our business. In fact, when Walmart came to our area they were the only store that had a designated "greeter". Now, they no longer have them...

    Skype ASL (For class)

San Diego has got to have a huge Deaf community, why choose Skype and AllDeaf to get your 5 hours? Personally, I can't stand video chat; the frame rate can be so unpredictable and choppy sometimes that it makes it hard to understand my Deaf friends. I much prefer going to a Deaf meetup. Also...

    Is ASL Limiting?

The ASL-STEM program is awesome. It's crowd-sourcing scientific terms from Deaf science professionals and students and turning them into uniform ASL signs specifically for those words. Every language (spoken or signed) goes through this. New scientific and/or modern concepts need words to...

    Open questions to ASL students

I must have a had a good series of ASL teachers. We were never asked to translate songs nor go out and survey people in the Deaf community. Instead we had an "Implications of Deafness" class in which members of the HOH and Deaf community came in and spoke about their life experiences...

Deaf Schools may be declining in the future

Well that explains why my employment application went unanswered, lol.

    Signing "Welcome" . . . confused.

I'm not familiar with that. How is "sure thing" signed?

    Signing "Welcome" . . . confused.

From what I understand, the "welcome" sign is ASL, but using it for "You're welcome" is not. Its used to "welcome someone" not as a reply to "thank you".

    HoH: Good or Bad?

You added an option (hearing) that Ambrosia didn't have and thereby you changed completely what she was getting at.

    Medical accommodations for deaf EMT?

Unfortunately, many tools available "in hospital" are not available nor practical in a pre-hospital emergency setting.

    Medical accommodations for deaf EMT?

I was an EMT in NY for 9 years and rode with a HOH EMT for 3. Now, I haven't re-certed in 10 years and standards change but here are some things that I'd look into. From a purely academic stand point you shouldn't have any issue passing the practical. The only section that relies on hearing...

Pushing Science’s Limits in Sign Language Lexicon

Fantastic! I'm working with DHH kids in a middle school science setting, and it'll be great to finally have specific signs to use (once they understand the concept) instead of fingerspelling terms over and over. Additionally, since I'm hearing, I hate to "make stuff up" (it's not my language...

Have you ever used 20 Mule Team Borax?

We use Borax as a forge welding flux to keep scale from forming on the semi-liquid steel we're hammering together. That's my wife doing a forge weld. Those "sparks" are the spray of liquid Borax at 3000 deg F as it's getting expelled from the welding area.

Would anyone like to give me feedback on a short film script?

You would probably do quite well to read the "Adjustment to Late Onset Deafness" thread stickied in this same subforum (http://www.alldeaf.com/our-world-our-culture/62953-adjustment-late-onset-deafness.html). It will doubtless give you insight into both the little and big things a hearing person...

    Interpreter for elementary school

Many of the terps at the middle school I work at do follow their student as they move through the grades. So, it might not be all that unreasonable. But, you still might not want to do it for the reasons Reba said though.
