    ADers, I am thinking about getting a cochlear implant, but I don't know if it would benefit for young adults like me (I'm 21).. I am profoundly deaf (dB of 90+) and I do wear digital hearing aids, but I only hear some of words. I'm not sure if the implant will harm my power wheelchair...

    Agreeable! Yeah, not too many people are exposed to someone like me. I was labeled mentally retarded twice in my life. My folks were very furious at the psychologist in 1996 and the govt in 2000 for labeling me.........

    oh, i see. where did your son attend school? Deaf/CP is a very rare case and personal assistants need to learn how to deal with people such as myself.

    my temporary personal assistant (he's hearing) took pictures for me. The guy in green shirt is HoH and he is a Gallaudet student. He was also my temporary personal assistant since he accepted the assignment to work with me for a week.

    I wanted to get inside white house, but I couldn't find accessible doors. I guess it has to do with security.

    I learned A LOT and that included some risky traveling as a deaf quadriplegic. i went on subways which required me to go fast through the fare gates and doors on subways. Also, I learned how to get through people (they were running).

    The protests were to show the government that we do have lives and equal opportunity to enjoy education, employment, etc. i protested against institutionalizations because we need to have Personal Care Assistance to help lead lives, especially for people who are deaf with secondary disabilities.

    Interested about Gallaudet

    I visited Gallaudet for the first time on Thursday. The staff is very friendly and they said that I will pick up more ASL (I am more English). My friend showed me ASL classes and the gym is fully accessible. I am still thinking about it.
