This woman hears worse in some aspects with CI over HA.

1 - I was told by my surgeon that it's also mainly because surgeons do the insertion way too quickly that damages the fragile hair cells in the cochlea. This is why sometimes you see surgeries can be done within 2 to 3 hours. My surgeon spent more than 4 hours per ear (probably half of the time...

This woman hears worse in some aspects with CI over HA.

Awesome post CrazyOne! I def learned a lot... Just to go out that CI companies are not out there JUST to make money..they're out there to help us do something that we could never achieve...and that is to hear. I understand that people are against CI's or whatever...it's because they're...

What color is your Nucleus Freedom BTE?

 I'm in awe! Since I never had 3G, was 3G rechargeable or used batteries? If it only used ONE type of power, that's probably why it's cheap to just buy different colors. Freedom, you cannot do that because it has the LCD, buttons, and you can use rechargeables as well as batteries...

What color is your Nucleus Freedom BTE?

I'm not sure, but so far yes. We get a huge box full of stuff that many people overseas don't get. It's sad really. I have everything that I need. We get one processor and one as a back up processor. Some people want the backup to be a little different color or different style such as...

    quick question

Do not plug anything in the "audio", instead..find a jack that is labeled "phone". I have two old TVs and they both have Phone jacks. If you still can't find it, let me know, maybe we can find the manual online.

If someone has 70db HL and gets 70db HA gain, does he hear 0db?

I agree. In order to hear at 0 db ALL frequencies, you'll have to be hearing and have ALL of the hair cells available for it to function. That's common knowledge. Now, if you want to hear aided at 125hz, you'll have to have every single hair cells stimulated where that frequency can...

Is it possible to have headaches with CI ?

yeah, I *just* updated it. Problem is I'm at a plateau. There's nothing more to say about my CIs except for mapping sessions. I am starting to hate my new map as well...it just sounds "off". I'm not sure if it's because the audi lowered the high frequencies a little too much...now male voices...

How long did it take for you all to go through your CI assessment?

LOL at everyone's posts. When I had my left done, I asked to have it done as soon as possible due to the fact that I was starting school at the end of January and wanted to recover. My CI surgeon is NOT just a CI surgeon...she does complicated surgeries regarding to the ear, nose and...

Is it possible to have headaches with CI ?

You def need a new map. :-( I do get headaches usually the day or day after my mapping. Manly because of the tonal beeping and the adjusting. The last few times were a bit much because my audiologist was trying to figure out which high frequency was bothering me the most and lowering it...

How long did it take for you all to go through your CI assessment?

Mine was even shorter. For my Left - I had to wait until insurance was effective on Jan 1st 2008. Saw my audiologist in Novemeber, got approved that day. Saw my surgeon on Jan 3rd, got the surgery the next week. For my right - Two days. :-)

CIs, mappings and music, oh my!

Hmm...yeah, you can try to increase the speed. Mine was the second highest possible. Any higher would sound very distorted and terrible. I noticed that you don't have Auto sensitivity AND ADRO. Try that....that's how I discovered that it brought out the Vocals a LOT better. Mind you, I...

Do high frequencies really matter much at all?

I agree that you don't really know what you're missing until you actually have the ability to hear high frequencies. At first, I didn't care too much for high frequencies before I got the implants, but I discovered how important they can be in comprehension of music and speech in general, as...

CIs, mappings and music, oh my!

LOL - another fellow music lover. While I don't listen to a lot of Broadway tunes (I am SO behind with them. I love Phantom and Lion King), but I do listen to a lot of music. Music was the number one reason why I got CI. To say why "you can easily follow music but not table conversation"...

This woman hears worse in some aspects with CI over HA.

That's what I keep arguing about. Some of us aren't "OBVIOUSLY NEED IT" type of implantees, like me for example, but I definitely will NOT be happy with "just hearing environmental sounds". No matter how much benefit the HA gave me for environmental sounds, it does not give me the...

Has CI technology improved as fast as HAs?

FYI for all of you above talking about the magnets and stuff.... There's someone here (I'm not sure if she's on this forum, or if I read her blog, I don't remember), that got CI, but purposely asked to take the magnet out. She has to have MRI every 3 months or 6 months for many years, so...

Has CI technology improved as fast as HAs?

There was never 24 full functional electrodes (at least that's what I believe). It has been 22 with 2 ground. I believe back in the day, there was strictly 22 electrodes, but there has been issues with static and stuff, so they added two electrodes for grounding purposes.

    Online Hearing Test

Interesting - I just did a simple run through. Just one CI, speaker at medium volume. I can hear at 300mHz (which I know is wrong, I can hear lower) up to 10mHz. It's really high pitched, so I wonder if it's because I'm sensitive. :-) My fiance can hear up to 16. My dog and cat was looking all...

I need search find professional doctor surgeon

I agree. I think your insurance company may not allow you to get a third surgery. You asked to have it removed, and now you want to be implanted again. What will happen if you STILL have the same problem?

This woman hears worse in some aspects with CI over HA.

Look - First of all...she had the first AB implant model. Unfortunately for her, it means she cannot get the Harmony because it's not backward compatible. It's not 12 electrodes, it's 16. Regardless, just because someone has 12 electrodes doesn't mean she/he will do poorly than someone who has...
