"You know, you don't Really Have a Hearing Problem...."

Most of my audiograms have been fairly consistent for the past 2 years. If they were done right after another they should have been the same.

    CDI: Certified Deaf Interpreter

I have interpreted music as part of performance before. It was never for the point of interpreting it for access though. I did my own Deaf spin on the songs.

    who has a fluctating loss?

They can't fire you due to hearing loss. We should get AliciaM in here since she also works at a bank and she is HOH. I have fluctuating hearing too but my loss is so profound that it doesn't really matter. It is a difference of a 90dB loss or a 120dB loss.

    HA and school

I tend to be sarcastic. Depending on who it is, if I am told "I am sorry" or get pity I tend to shoot it back. I will say something "Thanks, and I am sorry your nose is so big" or something equally stupid.

For TORONTO: Community Forum: Audism and the Toronto Police Service

We have all heard the stories of the Toronto Police Services denying interpreters, accusing Deaf people of "faking", interpreting attempts to communicate as violence, misunderstanding facial expressions that are a part of our grammar as anger, and countless other acts of audism, discrimination...

Suggestions for replies to "great speech skills"

It depends on the person. I have a tendancy to say something else equally ridiculous - like "Thanks. I think you have a good nose" When I am called hearing impaired my response is "I am not hearing impaired" and then they loook so confused before slowly saying "...then what are you?" or "...I...

Experiences the 1st week after CI operation?! Help!!

As a person who lives with chronic pain I want to chime in on this pain medicine mis-information being tossed around. Oxycodone is a percocet. This is not pure oxycotin. In the lower doses for those without a tolerance, taking it for a week or two after surgery will not end in addiction. I...

Still deciding which HAs to choose from...

Hmm..I am starting to wonder if I would want a speech in noise program. Programming does suck. It is all about finding an amazing audiologist with infinite patience. I have had the same aids for 2 years now and I still go back every few months for programming! It is mostly because my needs...

how long does it take to use the Rochester method fluently

No, you just learn how to modify. I sign one handed all the time out of lazyness or because something is holding up my other hand.

I have to Deaf friends with industrial peircings. Both wear hearing aids at least sometimes. No problems as far as I know.

how long does it take to use the Rochester method fluently

I know lots of people who use ASL with one hand. It doesn't limit you from using it. Just so you know.

    HA and school

I have never really made an effort to hide my aids. I also don't find I get many questions but everyone around me knows I am Deaf. I will often get compliments from people who like my pink and blue swirled earmolds or the rhinestones on my aids. I would personally rather people ask than...

    oral terps

I have used oral terps in conjunction with PSE. If I want the English I will ask for that. I know a few terps that do it REALLY well. Never used just an oral terp though

how long does it take to use the Rochester method fluently

Not to mention - you can't be "fluent" in the Rochester method since it isn't a language.

    G20 protest and Deaf discrimination

Today I was surrounded by police, no where near a protest, and told to consent to a bag search. I said no. They said either I had to consent or I would be detained. How is this consent? Consent means agreeably allowing something to happen. I have no choice either I say yes or they arrest me and...

    G20 protest and Deaf discrimination

I am not going to lie - I have been protesting. I have been peaceful though and not rioting.
