    Which Dog Food?

I've always had consistently good results and advice about Eukanuba brand. Do NOT feed Blue Buffalo or Blue Wilderness, they seem really good on the outside but they are well known for not being honest about what's really in their food. Same goes for Nutro. Eukanuba is honest. I've heard as many...

    Combined name signs?

So I was reading an article over on lifeprint.com, and I discovered that apparently, a combined name sign should never be given. It should either be arbitrary or descriptive, but not both. Is this true? I ask, because my name sign is combined. It's an "L" wiggled down from the top of the head...

Dating after deafness... Is it possible?!

SpaCityMedic, I am in the EXACT same boat as you when it comes to dating. I'm deaf, but was raised culturally hearing, so I am in between two worlds, and not part of the local Deaf community to find men to date in. So my experience has been with hearing men so far. And I had the worst...

Why Won’t They Get Hearing Aids?

To be honest, I don't think we necessarily need to be offended by where this particular article is going. It is in reference to older hearing people who have lost or are losing their hearing. They are not d/Deaf and have not chosen to pursue the d/Deaf culture for themselves - they are simply...

Can hearing people be culturally Deaf?

They can be, but it's not likely, aside from CODAs. I was BORN deaf but my mom fell for that whole "Don't let her sign, she'll never get anywhere in life" thing so I was raised culturally hearing against my will. Now that I am an adult, and sign, I still have yet to really be accepted as...

    Technology Recommendations?

Typically, standalone video phones are VASTLY faster and clearer than using webcams/computer combinations. My experience has been that the quality and speed has been as good as if they were right in the room with me, whereas with webcam, skype, etc there's always a little bit of lag, the picture...

What are the chances of passing a driver's test?

When I was 16 I passed right off the bat and got a perfect score. Driving really isn't as hard as people make it seem. Just relax and try to forget you're being observed and you'll do fine.

I am thinking about buying a foreclosure house...

Eh, that's not so much a concern as is the initial damage, although it is a possibility. By the time they've actually moved out and had the house taken away they've moved on from the initial anger and vindictiveness that caused them to destroy the house while they were still in it or...

I am thinking about buying a foreclosure house...

Always be careful when buying a foreclosed home. More often than not, the previous owners are disgruntled enough to just completely wreck the place out of vindictiveness, and it can cost so much to make all the necessary repairs that you don't really save any money over buying a "regular" house...

Does being deaf/hoh make you a bad writer?

A lot of people for whom ASL is a first language, type the way they sign. ASL grammar is different from English grammar. When writing the way they sign, word order is different, there is no punctuation (since punctuation in ASL is body language and facial expressions), and the little words like...

Is your hearing with your CI good enough to speak on the phone?

Nope. The doctors were so sure that I would be able to after some time with the CI's, but it never happened. It seems like my brain just doesn't want to learn to hear on the phone.

    Dealing with "Pathological Liers".....

I know of a few, I am not close with any though. Honesty is one of the most important traits to me, and if someone lies more than once I usually drop them from my life. Unfortunately there is one person in my life that I am not sure is a liar or not. It drives me crazy.

RIP Thomas Kindade - Famous painter!

I have always loved Kinkade's work. It's a shame he died so young. :( Especially since so many snobs in the art world looked down on him. Hopefully he knew that their opinion didn't matter and he had a special gift. No artist has consistently evoked the kind of emotion from me as he has with his...

How did ASL grammar and English grammer get to be so different in the USA?

That's fascinating. And it makes total sense.

I don't know anything about this company, but a web search brought them up. Looks like they have text capable phones and allow total parental control over what they can do on the phones. Cell Phones For Kids | Kids Cell Phones | Prepaid Cells For Kids from Kajeet

    Technology Recommendations?

The Sidekick was simply among the first to be easy to use by deaf people due to it's keyboard, and earlier on, it's software was more geared towards personal data use when all the other phones were geared towards business data use. That's why it was so popular with the deaf. These days though...
