    Hatis Mach I for Freedom

I would not shell out the extra money for it. I emailed Cochlear asking about a DAI option for cell phones and they emailed me back saying that the t-coil/loop was the only option. They then went on to include offsite options that they said were just as good and a lot less expensive.

    CI Problems

I would say you need to see your audi. From what you described (hearing a car engine and then suddenly nothing while car is still running, then sound again) it does sound like the processor is faulty. Either that, or the connection between the processor and the battery is a bit loose. I know...

New Audi, New Appointment, New Aids

candybrowneyes, unfortunately, it sounds like you have had the same path with Meneire's that I have. You rarely mention vertigo, but you often mention tinnitus and hearing loss. How long has it been since you were diagnosed with MM? I also was happy with my first ha (open fit Delta by Oticon)...

    Tinnitus

It's hell, isn't it? Mine was 24/7 constant noise and once I did get to sleep, there were "plane take-offs" during the night that would often wake me up. My answer was a few drinks, sorry if that offends anyone, but it worked, and was the only thing that did. I was tired, totally relaxed and ok...

If a CI person has an heart attack....

Thanks Lisa. This is a quote from my "warnings and precautions" paperwork that came with my CI: Do not use electroconclusive therapy on a cochlear implant patient under any circumstances. electroconclusive therapy may cause tissue damage to the cochlea or damage to the cochlear implant.

    CI Activation

Wonderful to hear all went well. Natural response to first sounds and they do get better, if slowly. I went from metallic computers on helium to chipmunks. At least I can tell whether they are male or female chipmunks and I can understand most of what is said without speech reading :)

If a CI person has an heart attack....

There is a chance, yes, that is why it is important to wear medic alert bracelet, id, etc. They can then make an incision and take out the magnet to do MRI. Some brands of CI can withstand low power MRI. Best to check with the website of CI brand and/or CI surgeon/audi for exact info for brand...

    Things starting to work out

Same here..people that didn't know me before say I sound different. Those that did know me before say they are glad I sound like myself again.

How do you deal with your hearing loss?

C-NICE, think of it as a grieving process. After all, you are mourning the "dying or death" of your hearing. We have all gone through it, in one way or another. It is hard when you have something you take for granted and *poof* in very little time at all it is gone. I started losing mine in 2006...

    Don't like my new MAP!

Their answer is, I am only in the office three days a week, and half of that is spent out on the floor, so, since the shredder is used 7 days a week..blah, blah, blah....

    CI Activation

My best advice is to expect it to sound REALLY crappy at first. After that, you know it has to get better..even if it is just baby steps. It will all sound weird and wonderful all at the same time. Mechanical, high on helium, perhaps, but wonderful because you are hearing something. Good luck...

    Don't like my new MAP!

According to the Cochlear website, the clinics in my area are Baha clinics, not implant clinics. The one I go to IS the closest. The others 4 hours away or more. Damn...I guess the local CI clinics implant AB?

    Don't like my new MAP!

Thank you all for your words of support. To address some of the comments, here goes. I have military insurance (Tricare Prime) and this is the closest place they could find that would accept Tricare. They did look closer, but no go. There are doctors/audi's in my own town that deal with CI, but...

    Don't like my new MAP!

It is less than three years old Pinky, and large. It sits behind where I am and others come in and out of the office all day stopping to shred papers. If it was me doing it, I would turn off CI, but, it is others and I am deep in concentration when they start the damned thing up and by then it...

    new cochlear implants (Freedom)

I got a box of disposable batteries with my "Cochlear kit", as well as two rechargeable batteries. Once the box is gone, I will have to pay for them. As for the rechargeable ones, they are good for a year, then I can have them replaced..at least I think that is what my audi said.

    Don't like my new MAP!

Thanks Lisa, Charlotte and Kateweb, I didn't even get a chance to call today. It was my first real day back after vacation and I was busy playing "catch up". It was only slightly better today but there were a few times I just wanted to snatch that processor off my ear and toss it. The worst...
