    CI Surgery Date :)

My loss is mixed, about half conductive, half sensorial, and I got a CI. So that part isn't true. They're also implanting a LOT of people with just moderate to severe losses, as their main focus is speech discrimination.

    Getting new earmolds! Color suggestions??

My new earmold! Matches my Naida MUCH better! The canal is a lot deeper too, so it no longer moves when I'm eating.

I'm sure it seems bigger because it's on a kid's head. But it does look like it's at least 3x as big as my AB headpiece.

AB's new processor will be out this summer in the US, already out in UK and Canada. Since you were born hearing and were HOH most of your life, I recommend AB for you. Cochlear is really best suited for those born deaf, as it does not provide the rich hearing experience late-deafened remember.

Adults profoundly deaf that have has cochlear implants

But they will most likely give him something. He will just have to work harder for it than say, me, who had 8 years of hearing history before going deaf. Adults born deaf get implanted all the time. He may never be able to ditch ASL or lip reading 100%, but he should get a lot out of it...

    Questions about hearing aids

My BTE doesn't interfere with my glasses or hair at all, I'm very confused as to why your Audi would even think of that. My glasses sit between my HA's and my head, and depending on how I'm wearing my hair, my HA is either under it or over it.

Welp... I'll be leaving in two hours.

Because the majority of people would rather deal with an extra battery than cords.

please explain to me about cochlear implants

My feeling is that if you have too much to lose by destroying your residual hearing, you have too much residual hearing to get a CI. That was never a concern of mine as there was nothing useful to destroy.

Have you ever tried to wear CI or HA when you are sleeping in bed?

This :giggle: I've been deaf for too long to try and sleep while hearing. Can't do it! Plus, I roll over a LOT in my sleep, my CI side being my favored side, so it would just come off!

please explain to me about cochlear implants

If you have NO loss in your good ear, it's unlikely you will qualify right now. They ARE implanting people with single sides deafness right now as a study, so sometime in the future it's possible you will qualify. If you have some loss in your good ear, then whether you qualify or not will come...

    CI Surgery approved today

A little trick of mine, since I have to take decongestant around the clock in the Spring, is to take my allergy meds with my bedtime dose of decongestant. The drowsy effect in the allergy meds counteracts the stimulant in the decongestant :) Just don't get a non-drowsy allergy med lol.

I don't think it's any grosser than incision pictures! I looked at a TON of those before my surgery.
