Adults profoundly deaf that have has cochlear implants

I think what you mean is that young children's brains have spacticity. This means that it is flexible and easily adaptable to changes and traumas. This is why children learn faster and better than adults do. Adult's brains do not have spacticity, limiting their growth and recovery from trauma. A...

Adults profoundly deaf that have has cochlear implants

It's not that they wouldn't benefit, they actually would most likely benefit in some way. They would just have to work harder at rehab, likely need professional rehab, and most likely wouldn't achieve what a late-deafened implanted can.

Have you bought from "Hearing Aid Battery Shop"

A month?! How much do you wear your aids?! And yes, CI's use more batteries because the battery has to power both the internal and external components.

    What would you say?

Thanks everyone! I haven't seen them since my Mom talked to M, but M did email me to apologize and to tell me to tell her if she ever crosses the line. I think things turned out well. Now to tackle all the misconceptions by people in my everyday life...

New stuff for the Deaf re access...

I'm interested in that bracelet! Were still trying to find a cost-effective solution for me at home. We got a bed shaking alarm that doubles as a smoke alarm, but need to get something for the door, timers, phone, etc. Seems the bracelet would be a cheap route and not require technicians lol...

hearing aid in one ear....and people think the other ear is fine..

After my ear drum surgery in January, I had cotton swabs in my ears for about a week I think, and it was the first week back after winter break at college. With a new semester always comes the questions and explanations, etc. I cannot tell you how many people asked why I didn't take the cotton...

Have you bought from "Hearing Aid Battery Shop"

Just get AB; Neptune uses rechargeable or disposable AAA batteries, and the Naida CI Q70 will have rechargeable batteries, and a tray for disposables! I get about 10-12 hours out of AAA's in my Neptune now that I'm turned up all the way, longer if I don't jam out music in my car haha.

This is because Cochlear is based in Australia, so they have dominated the market there.

    CI and time off work?

I took 2 weeks off of work and 4 days off of school. I was fine returning to work, but could have used an extra day off from school. If being deaf is something that can't work with your job, you need to start planning now. You will be deaf, with or without a CI. You need to start working with...

    What would you say?

I don't post much outside of the HA/CI forum because I don't have much time, but need some "advice." I read here and you guys seem really quick on your feet and good with words. So I wanted to ask what would be your response in a situation like these? Back story: M runs the tutoring center at...

Yes, but she knows NHS has more strict guidelines, and yet continues to give American posters false information.

    CI Surgery Date :)

Check out the forums on Hearing Journey. It's an AB board, so most posters have AB, but the section on qualifying and testing, surgery, etc, are all relevant regardless. You'll learn a lot over there. I'm DeafAlex there too.

    CI Surgery Date :)

But I also had non-responsive ear drums during that test, which is explained in the post. ETA that the ear sums were fixed by the surgery, they perform at 100% again. Haven't been tested though so don't know how that affects my bone conduction results. Last test was 2 weeks after surgery for my...

    CI Surgery Date :)

My speech discrimination is 0 in both. But you can have up to like 50% speech discrimination and still get a CI. I didn't know this before joining a CI message board. It seems people who I wouldn't even classify as deaf easily get CI's. ETA: Left is No Response, has been for 16 years. Right is...
