Do you struggle to say words?

Grew up with mild and then moderate hearing until I was 12 so English was my first language. When my hearing degraded to severe (from moderate severe when I was 14) I lost all confidence in my speech. This led to me stuttering and mixing words and kids are cruel so I stopped speaking. I am now...

Bone conduction vs hook induction headphones

Hi. Wanted to know peoples opinion on headphones. I use both bone conduction and hook induction headphones and like both for different reasons. Bone conduction let me feel music which I think means I get more of it. while Hook induction are useful as I can hook them up to my HAs. I was...

What jobs can you do with hearing loss?

I know 2 deaf musicians and a deaf sound producer. I don't think anything is off the table. (maybe some military)

    Ear molds

I didn't like the full moulds and had my GP switch to what in the UK we call a half cap. (I think you would call a full mould a shell and a half cap a skeleton mould) While these were a little quieter I just turned my HAs up to solve this.

Am i the only one that hates their hearing aids?

I am aware. for me it is a double edged sword. on the one hand I like them when they help but hate them when I don't need them. I also don't like to wear them on dates (which I luckily don't have to do any more)

    Should i get hearing aids

I have severe hearing loss in one ear and moderate in the other. I got BTEs on the NHS in UK and they were great. they opened up so many new things that I didn't have even if it was just taking a bit of pressure of my lip reading in the pub.

Anyone else heard of people learning asl and it helping dyslexia?

I know 3 dyslexic interpreters (BSL) including my own they say it isn't the same as reading and helps them communicate quite well.

Staying relaxed in noisy environments being hoh or deaf. .

Depends. In the pub I lip read and follow conversations where I can. If I have to ask people to repeat most of my friends are used to it. Anywhere else I tend to assess the difficulty of lipreading enough to understand and decide whether I'm going to join in. I also try to take regular brakes...

Your opinion on the word: "disability"

To me the word doesn't mean much. I call myself disabled but don't think myself lesser than anyone else (I'm actually a little better that most people ;))

Why is the deaf/hoh community so isolating

Don't worry. I have experienced all this bar the speech. My speech is okay but i trip on words and it is really irritating when I say something that comes out as a slurred mess and people laugh. The general population can be very frustrating and I think almost everyone here will understand...
