    Dream job

Ideally I'd like to become an interpreter but if that doesn't work out I can fall back on my science background or pursue medicine :)

Hello and welcome :) What sign language do you use in Saudi Arabia?

I'm hearing and mute; can I give people sign names?

I know a mute guy who signs fluently and I asked him the exact same question. Answer: No, you have to be deaf to give sign names. This is in Sydney though, could be different elsewhere.

Me too. I enjoy people who are as enthusiastic as me about learning sign language :)

That's quite understandable and I've heard similar stories.

    Totally new to sign language!!

I agree. She only expressed her appreciation for ASL and that she's enthusiastic about teaching it to her son.

White Ohio Woman Sues Over Sperm From Black Donor

She wanted a white child because she and her partner are white. I don't think it's racist and she should be compensated for their incompetence.

    Improving English skills

I agree, however I do feel that some deaf and hard-of-hearing can still benefit from improving their written English skills if help was offered on here, even if in the slightest.

I was signing with my hearing friend at the shops and two deaf people came up to us and asked if we were deaf, then we just started chatting and now I have two new deaf friends :)

Hearing people signing to each other?

What are your opinions on hearing people signing to each other in the absence of deaf people? Sorry if this is a duplicate post; couldn't find one matching it so I made one.

    Hearies and deafies

Just depends which social you go to. For example, I went to one last week which comprised mostly of older deaf people. I greeted them and told them I was learning and that was that. I was signing with other students the whole night.

Should be a good test of friendship then. If they can't accept that you're losing your hearing and don't bother to at least learn some ASL then good riddance to them. Easier said than done, but if they're true friends then they'll stick by you no matter what :)

    Hearies and deafies

What I meant was don't have an expectation that every deaf person will be enthusiastic and supportive about you learning sign language (which is the mentality a lot of hearing students have). Some don't care, which is perfectly fine, however, there are others who are welcoming and appreciate...

Do you think family members should learn ASL if you're deaf?

My opinion exactly :) I think if you have an immediate family member who is deaf than allowances should be made to learn at least some sign language.

    Hearies and deafies

I wouldn't say "most deafies", rather, a very small percentage would be indifferent and at most hostile. A word of advice to your hearing friend: don't expect every deaf person to be friendly or welcoming.
