Why are guys so "forgetful" and "absent-minded"?

On the contrary, my roommate who is female has lost her keys, wallet, phone, and various other things while I (male) have yet to lose anything. She even put up on the front door "DID YOU REMEMBER YOUR... keys? wallet?" etc and she lost those items AFTER she put that on the door... sad.

    What did you learn today?

I learned that Anchorage, Alaska isn't dark all day as some people have said-- it's Northern Alaska that gets dark, Anchorage is like any other city!

    cochlear implant testimony

Hi all, I was implanted in my right ear about 3 years ago and in my left about two years ago. I thought I would post a little reflection/testimony to see what you guys thought of my experience and perhaps provide advice, because I feel conflicted at the moment. I was raised orally with...

    Here we go

I'm just flabbergasted about the teacher communicating with her students through an interpreter. It makes me wonder who is going into deaf education these days-- hope the meeting goes/went well!

Could budget cuts in the mainstream lead to increased enrollement at deaf schools?

It should be noted that many deaf schools are state schools, and certain states (like WI, OH, etc) have budget cuts coming with their ridiculous bills-- and state employees WILL be affected by that, and state institutions, which include residential schools that the state funds... Also, the...

Deaf Teachers teaching Deaf Students [ in an ORALISM school ]

Forgive me for being arrogant, but I think I can be better than most of those hearing teachers! For one, I can relate! Whatever. In any case... I will apply to every school possible! I take my Praxis II in June of next year, so I have a year to go!! And here we go..... :)

Deaf Teachers teaching Deaf Students [ in an ORALISM school ]

I want to work in a school for the Deaf, but in this economy I may not get what I want-- I might have to apply for a school that does oral, and even though it's less likely that I'd get the job, I should still apply. I find it ironic because my BA was in English, and my MEd is in Deaf Ed, which...

Deaf Teachers teaching Deaf Students [ in an ORALISM school ]

My professor was saying that he probably wouldn't be hired at a oral school because of his inability to hear; since so much focus is placed on how to speak he would be of no benefit. He used a comparison of a wheelchair user teaching phys ed-- he said they wouldn't be able to say it to her face...

    Reintroducing myself..

Bott, I think the best answer that I can think of is "they bug me". I guess I prefer a world of silence over a world of doors slamming and people talking in the background. Too many little noises bother the heck out of me.. DD I've been exposed to the deaf culture, though I could use a lot...

Anyone here know a sign language NOT ASL?

I can fingerspell really well, so does that mean I can do the Rochester Method? :giggle:

    Language and Literacy

This is from a textbook, a reading and language textbook: "Phonology is often considered the building blocks to language"-- I'm pretty much assuming that they mean the English language and not any form of sign, except for cued speech which they might argue includes phonemes. Shel, could you...

    Reintroducing myself..

Hi, I've made a number of posts, but I haven't been on since 2009 (feels like an eternity away, but it wasn't, really...) so I thought I'd reintroduce myself! I recognize a few people on here, but there are so many members... Anyway, I'm Ben, and I recently graduated with my bachelors in...

    The Talking Deafie

All I was taught growing up was speech, so I suppose I am oral  In my Deaf Education courses I try to sign more, but most of them don't know sign, so... I have to use my voice...

    :( Learning ASL, outcast?

they may seem few and far between, and "1% of the population", but they're really everywhere. :giggle:

    Language and Literacy

I'm going to ask a very complicated question. The basic building blocks of LANGUAGE are phonemes, and according to research, sign systems have not been extremely successful at teaching our children the English language. With attempts to simcom, or speak and sign simultaneously, we attempt to...

Deaf Teachers teaching Deaf Students [ in an ORALISM school ]

I'm a Deaf Education graduate student, and a very interesting topic came up in class today. We all say that we want D/deaf people as role models, and that's a great thing in a school for the Deaf-- but the realistic view is that only a small percentage of D/deaf children are in the "culture", so...
