funny, i actually was talking to someone about the superbowl and he said "football s-u-p-e-r bowl" (using the sign for bowl).. i got what he was saying.. i dont know the official sign for superbowl anyway, lol so that worked for me. is signing "facebook" as the sign for FACE and BOOK...

why do you spell out happy hour? i just sign "happy" and "hour".. so do all of my deaf friends that i know of.. i try to only fs brand names, names, or cities etc.. unless i dont know a sign then i fs and ask what the sign is. meh.

i am hearing. just have an interest in ASL and a lot of Deaf/HOH friends... im sure if i were actually Deaf/HOH she would humored me and/or just kept her comments to herself.

I've thought about this, because I have considered becoming a terp in the future.. I think it would be awkward if i were to terp for my friends in personal situations (esp since my plans are to be a primarily medical interpreter), but at the same time, how does a hearing person become fluent...

i love that i live in the middle of the Appalachian mountains. i hate that they just built a walmart and a lowes in my quiet little town, transforming it into a metropolis. haha. ok slight exaggeration, but more people are moving here and its becoming crowded and i dont like it. :(

you are absolutely right. and patients like that, who are scared, alone, and in severe pain, deserve a proper interpreter and not someone making them lip read or write back and forth on a piece of paper when it comes to making important decisions when it comes to their health!

that would be awesome! i would love to work somewhere with a higher deaf population someday! i was actually thinking of working at a residential school for the deaf if a school nurse spot opened up. but there are only 2 that are relatively near me.. hmm well see where the future takes me!:hmm:
