Actually, donttrythis is the Twitter account of Adam Savage himself. :)

Connecting with the local Deaf community

I know two deaf people in Iowa, and I'm way out here in DC, never even been to Iowa! There must be people in DM. :)

    Mythbusters' Adam Savage HOH?

Nothing to look at, LOL. It's all in the thread right here. He has otosclerosis, he was born with malformation of the ear bones causing conductive hearing loss.

    Mythbusters' Adam Savage HOH?

I did a little more searching, apparently it is otosclerosis. I would LOVE to see them bust some myths about deafness! How about they start with last week's episode of House?! :D

    Mythbusters' Adam Savage HOH?

Please excuse the totally random bump, but I just had confirmation that it IS a hearing aid. Apparently he has a congenital condition. Twitter / donttrythis: @jayyoozee Yes I wear a he ...

What color is your Nucleus Freedom BTE?

I thought the stickers were the skins! I just looked at the Cochlear website and I am totally jealous of the stickers for the Freedom. I wish somebody would make them for my HA's! I am thinking of getting the Ear Gear covers so I can have a different color if I want. When I got my HA's they...

    Music being signed.

I really don't like 99% of the songs you see signed on YouTube. Most of the time it's really bad signers, and people leave comments saying how wonderful they are. There's some good ones on there - DPAN, Keith Wann, B. Storm, and some others - but most of the time it's just some ASL 2 student...

    Just wondering...

If you want to take an interpreter certification class, you need to take interpreting classes, not just sign language. If a person tried to take a doctor exam after anatomy lessons, they might know the body, but not how it works. Same with interpreting; it is a specialized field that requires...

Do all TV shows have CC?

I would say that most shows in the US have captions. Not all, but most. Public access shows, produced locally, do not get captions.

    Aspiring interpreter

And don't forget that the RID website has a database of ITPs as well.

    Aspiring interpreter

What part of California are you in? Do you want to stay near home for college? There are some ITPs in California, for sure.

What are high frequency sounds like?

How old are you? If you are over 30 and have normal hearing (ie, not HOH or deaf) then it's pretty normal that you can't hear 15kHz I believe... I don't think I have ever heard it!

    Nic ????

Here's the information from the RID website:

    Question

Or if you can describe individual signs that are giving you trouble, we could probably help you find them. I agree with ASLGAL that using a translation would be unfair, especially since it is for a test!

Any one got a Vpad (Viable) ?

No, it is NOT toll-free. "Toll free" refers to 800, 888, 877, and 866 ONLY. Toll free is a phone company term not a VRS term. diehardbiker was right in his/her description. Just because VRS users do not pay does NOT mean the number is "toll free" unless it is one of those area codes I...
