    Not Deaf enough??

Audiogram: Only shows what one's hearing status is. How one deals with the "condition" entirely up to "you". To the above comment-#249 what is the differentiation between "sign vs Deaf culture"? Other than bald assertions on computers?

    Ottawa, ON

I believe you have in Ottawa an office of the Canadian Hearing Soceity. Phone them and they can advise exactly where the deaf meet. Good luck in your future interactions with the deaf using ASL.

    Mary Kay Letourneau:

His programme was not about the married former teacher Kay Letourneau. The only connection seems to be both are listed on Sex Predator listing. Feel they shouldn't be. Dr Phil's comment re: behaviour being stupid- applies.

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

It is an individual choice on how one will "live the balance of their life using ASL/voice off" VS determining if a Cochlear Implant is "suitable " for dealing with being deaf. Hopefully some hearing with the assistance of a Cochlear Implant. Presumably one visits an ENT doctor for...

Given the chance to choose between hearing and Deaf who would choose to remain Deaf?

Using a Cochlear Implant doesn't alter the fact that one REMAINS DEAF. Easy to test-disconnect the implant-very quiet/silence. Aside: Have used a Cochlear Implant almost 8 years. Still bilateral DEAF. Whether those persons using Cochlear Implants want to learn/use ASL et al is a different...

    Cochlear America or MELD -EL?

It may seem a bit "obtuse" to claim when one uses ENGLISH on this computer"somehow" one is "communicating" in sign language. As to the "observation" "hearie can easily learn sign" in order to communicate with "voice off/only sign" using person" - only in "fantasy land"=computers!~

    Deaf Doctor

Generally speaking-Cochlear Implants are considered when Hearing aids are not much use-hearing wise. Also the state of one's health /ears/cochleas etc. have a bearing on the final decision. aside: in Sunnybrook/Toronto/Ontario since 1983 they have "reviewed" for Cochlear Implant-3000 deaf...
