    appropriate or not?

Insurance sucks for hearing devices. well for most people it does. What I can't figure out is why they won't cover it. I have sleep apnea and my insurance will buy a new machine every 6-12 months as needed ($500 cost for machine) and a new mask every 60 days ($100 per mask) so I could easily...

    appropriate or not?

Thanks. If anyone was to refuse my request for info, I wouldn't take it personal. I am a total stranger and they may be sensative to the subject, no reason for me to ruffel thier feathers. I understand that a HA for one person may not work for another, but people can have good or bad...

    appropriate or not?

I had an interesting interaction today. As alot of you know I am new to this community and as such I am noticing things that I would not have thought twice about a month ago. I was at a hallmark store in riverview and when I was at the cash register the lady behind the counter greeted me and...

    Hearing Impaired

I am new enough to all of this so I don't have an aversion to being called "hearing impaired". Although I do see some of ya'lls point that using the term Impaired puts a negative slant on it, where HOH has a softer feel to it. I know that I am HOH at a mild level for now (another 5db and...

Hello Everyone, I have a question if you dont mind...

While I am new to AD, and the deaf/hoh community, I am a late deaf adult so I was hearing for the first 25 years of my life but the past 4 years I have been loosing my hearing without realizing it....until a recent audio test so I think I can at least give some insight from a former hearie point...

    My Step Son is Deaf

I live in tampa FL area and a news report about this just came over the radio this morning while on my way to work. I thought they were a bit behind since I had read it here a few days ago. The cashier needs to meet up with some redneck that can hear but doesn't care to talk to him.......he'd...

    alot to take in.

Luckily my parents understand how bad it is because my dad has some loss due to working on Fighter jets for 10+ years in the Air Force. So they know how it can be. Right now I am in the mild range but some frequencies are right on the edge of moderate. I have mixed feelings about this new...

    alot to take in.

Thanks. I am already finding it easier to accept having to wear HAs, maybe my gadget loving side is overcoming the self concious side. I have found that the aids my audio is reccommending come in some cool colors so it won't be the typical shin tone colors. I also read that this particular...

    Db levels

What are the Db levels of hearing loss that define the categories, mild/moderate/profound. I know that Db levels are different for different frequencies depending on the person but if you isolate just one frequency and look at the loss at that freq. the db level would fall into a specific category.

    online/dvd asl learning

Thanks, I looked at those websites. I haven't poked around the aslpro.com that much, but I do really like the lifeprint.com website. I am ordering the cd so I can view it at work without going through the slow connection on our air cards. I really like the pictures and the way it is laid out...

    online/dvd asl learning

I want to take some sign language classes but my local colleges are not starting a new class until january and even the local deaf/hoh community center doesn't have it's next class until then. I would like to get a head start but aside from the internet or dvd's I don't know what to do. Even...

    alot to take in.

Thanks. There are times when I get distracted that I don't think about it, but as soon as my mind has time to wander I start freaking out about all this. It's one thing to learn another language (as I did partially with spanish) because you want to/need to, but to learn another form of...

    alot to take in.

I don't know where to start, so if I jump around a bit please don't hold it against me. Also I am sure I will be saying things that offend different people, not because I am trying to but because I am totally ignorant to the deaf/hoh community. I am not trying to offend anyone, so please...
