I didn't want to say anything but......

Sorry to hear this Skullchick. I hope that it is found. You'd think that if you lost it in the house it is in there somewhere. I've lost keys for 3 days and more before they finally showed up. I agree with sr171soars - always keep the CI in one place such as the dry and store. Also...

    speaking of misinformation

People believe what they want to believe, I suppose. The guy obviously has a particular philosophy and so any factual/empirical stuff that doesn't agree with that philosophy, well he isn't interested.

    See, it does happen.

It depends on the severity of the hearing loss. At mild/moderate levels of deafness you would be correct, the differences are very marginal. HAs do their job best at these levels of deafness. However at profound levels of deafness HAs are more powerful and there is more distortion created...

Check out the poem: "The Rectitude of the Deaf Community"

I agree. Having lurked on some parent sites there is actually quite a lot of interest in sign and frustration at so little information about it but the parents are very much aware of the strength of feeling in the deaf community about CIs for children as well.

    Grannies CI Diary

LOL! You're like me then. I laughed as well because it sounded so terrible. I reckon the people who were told to expect how terrible it sounds will laugh and those who were expecting it sound like their hearing aid or better right away go home crying.

    See, it does happen.

Sorry, I disagree. There needs a bit more substance than one post some years ago on the Hearing Exchange forum to be able to convince people that insurance companies routinely and happily approve CIs for people who score above the FDA criteria. I have however seen heck of a lot of stories of...

    Grannies CI Diary

Yeah, the tinnitus is the brain's way of saying "what the ?!?" after being in quiet for so long because it has come to register the quiet as normal. As you adjust the tinnitus will likely go away. The start is horrible isn't it? However, you are on a extremely crude map with the red and...

    Grannies CI Diary

Thanks for updating us Raykat. It sounds like you were started off on a very soft program to get you hearing sounds again. But your brain must have already adapted because now you can hardly hear anything. It's a sign that you need to be remapped already. Tomorrow's not long LOL! Are the...

    H/A vs. C/I

Yes, I can see why she would say that because I believe that the FDA has a criteria that CIs are only to be recommended for those with speech recognition of 60% or less with their HAs. Insurance companies would jump at the chance to say "no" anyway under such conditions, to preserve their...

    CI Robots?

I just think it's a throwback from the days when people didn't really understand what was involved with CIs and the concept of people being surgically implanted with "machines" was a scary idea. Heck, even I had a misconception at one time that it was brain surgery. I think this is a common...

    The rollercoaster continues!

Hi Jenny, Just a thought. Is your hearing loss likely to decrease further? When you said you were diagnosed with a "rapidly progressive" loss, then when you are checking out the Naidas then one thing you might want to ask the audie is how much room for adjustment do they have if your loss...

    H/A vs. C/I

I got the impression the OP was more about how and why can people who benefit from HAs can qualify for CIs as opposed to personal preferences about CIs vs HAs. Nevermind. I hope you didn't think I was being rude. I just wasn't really getting where you were coming from in the context of the...

    H/A vs. C/I

I don't think this is what DD is getting at. She thinks that some people at borderline hearing losses who get CIs would do just as well with HAs. Whereas you are talking about a personal preference at a profound loss of being happy with no surgery and HAs even though there is a good chance...

    CI Moments

My daughter started school this year. The teacher called yesterday and told me how pleased she was with her progress with reading, her motivation to learn, contributions to classroom discussion and her memory. She asked if I had any questions. I was just standing there with a smile on my...
