I have to disagree with some of this. I was abused when I was younger, and I've turned out alright. I'm not needlessly bitchy. Given, I've had to fight like hell to get to where I am now, and I'm still never going to completely be over it. I guess my point is, it's not really true for everyone...

It's because our sex ed sucks. I remember having it last year in health, and it was more or less a collasal waste of time. (Think Mean Girls when the gym teacher is talking about STD's- "If you have sex, you will get chlamydia, and you will die." That's basically your typical sex ed class.)
