    New asl t-shirt!!

"Girl Power" That is indeed a nice t-shirt! No, I don't know how to shrink pics on Windows. I could teach you how to do it on Linux, but I doubt you use a Linux OS. Wish I did, that is a keeper :)

    Translating asl gestures to text

s go Agreed. Written English is a series of words that doesn't fully convey emotion. ASL is more of an expression of ideas or story telling and conveys emotion in the form of body language.

    Translating asl gestures to text

Not all ASL is the same. For example, I first learned ASL in Texas. After moving from Texas to Florida to Colorado to Washington state, I noticed some of the signs were different in each state I and had to learn ASL again. There is also something called "home signs" that many deaf/hoh people...

Looking for new ear molds? are ear molds being phased out?

@zeefour I don't know your precise location, but I'll give some info I have in case it helps. I got my hearing aids and ear molds in Denver in 1996. I was unemployed and broke at the time and never saw a bill, so this may be of interest to you. Center for Hearing Speech and Language 4280 Hale...

    No asl for deaf baby?

Deaf babies should be introduced to both verbal and ASL and then allowed to choose the one that best suits them as they grow. Would you want someone to offer you options and then allow you to choose what you want, or do you want someone to force one item on you because they thought they knew...

    My ci journey

It is now 11 days after having my cochlear implant activated. I was sitting at my computer and heard what sounded like the crumpling of paper. It was a new sound and I wanted to identify it so I walked around my house looking for the source of the sound. I couldn’t find the source of the sound...

    If i don't know sign...

@Ryan B I think you'll find that the majority of deaf/hoh folks welcome the chance to converse with others.. as zephren pointed out, it may be the only conversation some of us have during the day.

    My ci journey

Oh, yes, I investigate every sound so I can put a mental label on it. That way my brain knows what to expect from that item/activity next time. For me, it was my digital wristwatch. I kept hearing a beeping at the same time each day and went through my house looking for something that would...

What are you thinking about? Part VIII

Thinking about how much "life" I missed being deaf for 25 years. My new CI allows me to hear so many things, hard to believe I've been missing so much.

    Nucleus 7

Well, you seem to be in pretty good position despite all that you have been through. That is inspiring :) Yeah, everyone has their own set of rules.. it is indeed frustrating! Wait.. Viagra is covered?! Clearly someone, somewhere, doesn't realize how debilitating hearing loss is. It's a social...

    Nucleus 7

Good job! it is inspiring to see people who keep a positive outlook after a bad injury. You're not alone, Medicaid doesn't cover anything related to hearing loss in Washington state either.. and the new digital hearing aids are around $3,000 per pair. I suffer from TBI too, from head injuries...

    Nucleus 7

Yeah, Medicaid has very limited resources. I do know that Social Security will pay for a cochlear implant, but not hearing aids, so if you ever end up on SSI or SSDI you could look into that.

    How to get enough protein?

I spent five years lifting weights and did a lot of deep research into proteins and how the body makes use of them. I also served in the medical branch of the US Navy and I continue to study medicine. The human body breaks protein down into amino acids. The body then uses those amino acids to...
