    Ci's For My Baby

You are right that a deeper recess isn't possible for babies which is why some babies have seemingly "strange" magnet positions esp those who get one implant as an infant and a second as a toddler. Some parents FREAK OUT that the implants aren't perfectly semetrical but the surgeon chooses the...

    Ci's For My Baby

I think what a lot of people are trying to communicate about you and your husband learning ASL is that the burden to communicate should never rest solely on your daughter. If you decide to use ASL or TC with cochlear implants, mom, dad, siblings, and extended family and community should ideally...

    Ci's For My Baby

I'm currently wearing a hearing aid in my left ear and cochlear implant in my right. The hearing aid ONLY lets me know that there is sound around. I can't understand speech. I'm only wearing it to get my ear used to sound again in the hopes that I can get an implant on that side as well. With my...

    Ci's For My Baby

Check out and study this chart https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/84378947/CochlearImplantShoppingGuide.pdf As for the militants pro and con sign, I grew up with both and have a MSc in medicine and am applying to medical school.

    Ci's For My Baby

Don't completely discount AB. I choose them partly because the internal component is rated to 6 joules while the others are much less. This means a errant baseball directly hitting the implant won't break it. The internal part is also full of unused memory so that it can be upgraded with new...

Advice Needed - Adjusting To Has With Severe Sound Sensitivity.

Here is an example- when I was tested for cochlear implant candidacy (see avatar photo) My speech understanding was around 11%. And the very bottom line is what I could hear the As with circles were my aided thresholds with high powered hearing aids. Even with hearing aids that were the most...

Advice Needed - Adjusting To Has With Severe Sound Sensitivity.

I've got no help. My audiogram is my avatar and as you can see, my hearing starts around 100dB. Do you have an auditory processing disorder or auditory neuropathy? Your hearing loss is mild with one little dip into moderate. Get them to turn the sound down but if sounds WITHOUT hearing aids...

    CI and Migraines...

I've had migraines all my life and since I couldn't hear, I didn't have one of the classic signs of migraines (phonophobia- fear of or avoidance of sound). The number of migraines I have had has not changed in the 2 years I've had my cochlear implant. Honestly, you get used to the sounds. The...

    CIs and Music

The "ban" http://cochlearimplanthelp.com/journey/choosing-a-cochlear-implant/cochlear-implant-problems/recalls/was a voluntary recall when AB found out that one of the two manufacturers had a few moisture issues that caused something like 10 total CI failures. They dropped manufacturer B and...

    CIs and Music

It takes a while to learn to enjoy music with a cochlear implant. I had to first realize that things like pianos and flutes and other high pitched instruments were involved in my favorite songs, not just drums and bass. My audiologist gave me a special music program that has a really wide IDR...

    CIs and Music

I have Advanced Bionics and music sounds so great. Part of the reason why I choose AB is because it is the only company that can stimulate two electrodes at once. When I was a kid I got a very cheap electric keyboard for Christmas (it must have been 1992) and it drive me crazy because when I...

    Petition for wireless cochlear equipment.

Nobody is joking. Wireless accessories have been around for all three of the major companies (the ones approved for use in the US, UK, and Canada) for at least 5 years. Since you don't seem to understand the concept of research I'm going to give you links to each companie's wireless accessories...

    Has anybody liked their CIs?

Actually, you are wrong. The difference between the SP and UP is very slight but the RIC is much less powerful and since it doesn't have a real earmold, it isn't able to provide as much gain. It doesn't really matter since my hearing loss started at 90dB and dropped off the chart to...

    Resound

As you can see above the difference in gains between the strongest hearing aids are between 1 and 5 dB. So not much at all but none of it matters if you don't have enough hair cells to make sense of sound.

    Phonak Naida VS Oticon Dynamo

The Naida and Dynamo have basically the same max gain. Have you considered a cochlear implant? My hearing before a cochlear implant is below. With a cochlear implant in my right ear my understanding is around 95% and thresholds between 15 and 25dB, probably better now that I have a new MAP.

    Phonak Naida VS Oticon Dynamo

Honestly if you are willing to at least look into it, a cochlear implant might be perfect for you. If you look at my avatar thing, that is my pre implant audiogram. Without hearing aids, I couldn't hear anything above 100-110dB at 250 and 500hz and basically nothing above that. The little...

    Resound

Depends on what your hearing loss is like. My first pair of hearing aids were resounds and even though they were the power BTEs, my hearing loss progressed and they were useless within 2 years. If you have severe to profound hearing loss or progressive hearing loss, look at Phonak Naida or (I...

    Has anybody liked their CIs?

I love my cochlear implant. I had progressive hearing loss that reached profound by the time I was 21. I got a cochlear implant in my right ear almost 2 years ago. I used to wear bilateral hearing aids that were more powerful than yours and maxed out and I only heard static. I was supposed to...
