    Anyone in washington, d.c.??

So me and my husband have tentatively decided we'd like to be in Washington DC by the time daughter is in kindergarten. That way she can benefit from the school programs there. I'm not saying our state school for the deaf and blind isn't good, but I think, since we have the option/ability to...

    Anyone in washington, d.c.??

My company's headquartered in McLean, actually, so I may be able to keep my current job and just work out of that office. Yes, definitely more expensive in the area. We wouldn't necessarily live in metro DC. Before moving to MT, we lived in Southern CA, so we know how far your income needs to...

Just wondering what the Deaf culture is like in D.C. My husband has family out there and we would are considering moving there. My 7 month old daughter has severe to profound bilateral hearing loss and we want to raise her as much in her culture as possible. We live in a smallish city in...

Specific request: born deaf implanted or not as babies please!

Man, I really thank all of you for your thoughts and input. I should have said in my original post, she does wear HAs, both sides, for 2 months now. She is still very young, but my husband and I don't think she gets any benefit from them, but again, she is too young to really "tell" us. If I...

Specific request: born deaf implanted or not as babies please!

Hi, I'm a hearing mom of a deaf daughter. She is 6 months old and was born profoundly deaf in both ears. Of course, the ENT and audiologist have brought up her getting cochlear implants around 1 year old. I've done a TON of research and I'm going back and forth on the decision. I see a LOT of...

Daycare Catering To Kids Who Use Asl??

My daughter is deaf and while she goes to a "normal" daycare, I have brought in print outs from the internet with ASL pictures and they have been more than happy to learn the signs and do them with my daughter. How much they are using it when I'm not around, I don't know, but they were very...

    Mom of deaf daughter...hi!

Thank you! We are just trying to surround her with signs as we learn them, and I try to sign with her in the mornings while we're getting ready for the day, or when I pick her up from daycare. Working on getting her into a daycare of a lady who's son is deaf and who has cared for other students...

    Mom of deaf daughter...hi!

Yes, we are definitely taking advantage of all the opportunities and resources in our town. We're very lucky to live in the same city as the state deaf school. I'm not sure if I want to mainstream her, unless she wants it. I'll let her decide, of course!

    Mom of deaf daughter...hi!

Thanks so much! She eats like a champ, no issues there! Sleeping..that used to be good til a few weeks ago, I've been reading about the dreaded 4 month sleep regression and I think we have succumbed to it! Thanks for the advice. I was given the info of another mom who's child has the same HL...

    Mom of deaf daughter...hi!

I just mean they talked to us about the school offering a total communications approach, where she can/will learn speech, written and verbal language, as well as sign language, and all the different combinations of approaches. Its actually a state school for the deaf and blind. Her IFSP is...

    Mom of deaf daughter...hi!

I'm in Montana. The meetings with the deaf school have been primarily about her options as she grows up, but we've only had a couple so far. I hope they soon include mini-tutoring sessions for me and my husband, as the ASL classes are only thru Nov 15, so at some point, we will need extra...
