    Struggling to understand my deafness

I like captions. But then I also don't, your in a public place they have a TV on. It's closed captioning, you think oh wow who needs volume, but then you realise, it makes no sense, you don't get the correct captions for (BBC News) in the UK public places are allowed to have a TV if it is the...

    Why Apologize?

A thing I have noticed is my go to phrase. 'No your alright' no matter who is in the wrong or right, no matter if I don't hear or miss understand. 'No your alright' is my go to thing. I suppose it is me apologizing to whom ever or for what ever. We apologize because we know they don't 'get it'...

I finally understand that feeling of having a hard day of hearing and the 'ahhhh' feeling when I remove my aids after 8hour-12Hour days. I honestly think that feeling alone is worth the hearing day.

Finding the specification of my aids...

I love my new aids, it has been a few days and I feeling so much better, I can hear more clearly and ear moulds are so much easier to deal with. I also now have the much needed Tloop and noise cancelling with loud noises so bleeps and emergency vehicles don't hurt or make my ears 'whistle or echo'

How did you become deaf / hard of hearing?

I love posts like this where you learn about the people you chat with. I feel a bit weird with this question because most people are either born with hearing loss or trouble of have some medical condition to name. I myself and just Hoh I only found out this in 2016, I have discovered that me and...

    Counting Down the Days

I know right, ear wax candles would be a better use for the stuff. But imagine the smell, 3 days and still no wax built up. I still give these a quick wipe. I recommend ear moulds if you are able to get them.

    Counting Down the Days

Yes first ear moulds, I do have the hole too and they are quite hard plastic but still much better than my old domes, I also like the fact that they are not deep in my ears, so I don't get wax issues no more. I used to have to clean my domes every hour otherwise I would no have any hearing. I am...

Can someone explain what a deaf person is "supposed to look like"?

Deaf people have 16 eyes, 22 noses, 12 lips, 500 ears, 15 dimples. Green scales, glub glub features, jabawoki horns, dragons tails, dinosaur wings, Chickens teeth and cats whiskers. Dogs bark and a hamster wheel in there pocket, in case of emergency. I once said something like this and the...

Can HOH genuinely identify as Deaf?

I myself am classed as Hoh and according to English welfare I am classed as having a disability due to my hearing loss, I can hear without my aids and I can hold a conversation too. You can not fake deafness. Geez I wanted my hearing to be better than what it is :p

    Announcments at airports,shops,ports,stations

I do not use trains much, I have never had to use an airport but I have been to a shopping mall /centre and they have tannoy systems that sound so distorted. I am new to been Hoh but I live with 2 complete hearing people so they could help us get this sorted. I have 100% speech but I have a strong slurr and I also get muddled...
