looking for recent hybrid CI news

yes, the ComPilot from Phonak can be use with the new AB processors (Naida CIs). I have AB implants myself and use the ComPilot. I mostly use the Compilot with my iPod for music listening, and have used it with the Phonak FM unit at times in class. Works well.

Is Cochlear Implant suitable to me?

Don't worry too much of some people saying sign language is the way to go or incredibly useful... It's YOUR choice if you want to learn signs. You mentioned you don't have anyone to sign with, you're mostly around hearing people, so you'd basically would only be learning signs for yourself...

    Need A Suggestion?

Whatever hoichi, I'm done. You're impossible. Yes, sign can be useful, but again... the world consists of a hearing majority, and the majority is not going to be so willing to adapt and learn signs for us, as much as we'd like them too. Just saying some deaf/hoh are going to choose the...

    Need A Suggestion?

Sign language is not always the answer to all. Unfortunately, we live in a HEARING world, and not all d/Deaf and hoh persons will have a d/Deaf community or friends to interact with, so then what? And some people WANT to be able to hear, some may not want to be deaf and struggling so much in a...

    Need A Suggestion?

that would actually be up to you and your audiologist to decide that. If you can, try different hearing aids. One brand will be the best for one person while another brand works the best for another person. There is no one size fits all.

Tinnitus and CI? Before and after

no guarantees the CI will get rid of the tinnitus. I still have tinnitus in my right ear, and actually I've had new tinnitus sounds come up since getting the implant in Oct.... really annoying and drives me insane at times. It's most noticeable if my Ci processor is off or if it's quiet around...

    Iphone 5s Users Review

not the latest. I haven't updated the iOS in a while (I know the most recent one pushed out has issues so I didn't bother with the update yet). yep. iOS 8.1.3

Please help me and fill out this survey! Only 8 questions!

hmm... yeah no, sorry, no can do. Rather rude of you to come here and post this, without introducing yourself. Really, would you pop up in a random group somewhere "hey fill this out for me k thanks!" without explaining why other than 'it's for school'? "do you consider CIs the solution for...

    Looking to Be Educated

what in the hell is an elective disability? And how the hell is deafness an elective disability? It's not like we chose to be deaf! We were either born deaf, or went deaf because of a disorder/illness/injury/etc. ...????!!!!!!! Yes, they can choose to stay deaf or treat it with hearing...

Got my CI Speech Proccessor Yesterday

Angelsound is a great auditory rehab tool! They even have an app for iPhones/iPads, etc. It'll take some time for your brain to make sense of the signals from your CI and turning them into actual sounds that you'll understand. Very odd and confusing at first, but it will get better. Anywhere...

Cochlear Implants in noisy bars and nightclubs

leviathan54, all implants will get the job done. You will hear, period. It's just a matter of looking at each brand and figuring out what bonus features you'd like to take advantage of. I don't know too much about Cochlear's or MedEl's programmings for noisy situations. I think Cochlear has...

C.I Users - considered Deaf or Hard of Hearing?

Call yourself deaf or hard of hearing. I have bilateral CIs but still say I'm deaf, because honestly, when I don't have my CIs on I am DEAF (and even with my CI's on I'm still struggling a bit as it's still a work in progress for me). Use whichever one you like for yourself. Deaf (with...

Cochlear Implants in noisy bars and nightclubs

Not everyone is going to think the same. Yes, I do enjoy silence at times. But if I'm in a social setting where I want to socialize, I'd want to try to hear as much as I can to keep up with what's going on. Everyone is different and will do what they want. No need to randomly go around...

Cochlear Implants in noisy bars and nightclubs

I will definitely discuss this with my audie. She has me at 70 on all programs if I remember right. It does take some playing around with different setting options to find out what works best for different situations, for sure.

Still disappointed in Phonak for mini USB

Phonak is behind the times just because they still use a mini? Ever occur to you that perhaps because they have other devices that are still using the mini, they might be trying to make it easier on Phonak consumers? I can use the same mini to charge both my ComPilot and my SmartLink+. When...

Still disappointed in Phonak for mini USB

Does it really matter? Is it seriously that big of a disappointment to you? I guess I don't really understand this.... different companies are going to use what they want to use for their devices; they are not all going to use the exact same styles (for whatever their reasons are for using a...

Cochlear Implants in noisy bars and nightclubs

I don't know what Cochlear or MedEl has to offer for noisy situations, but Advanced Bionics has ClearVoice and UltraZoom. I have ClearVoice Medium and UltraZoom together on one slot, but still having a hard time in noisy situations. I'm going to ask my audiologist to boost my ClearVoice up to...

    Looking for technology assistance

Innocaption is a great app for the iPhone for captioned calls. You'll be given your own innocaption number that you'll have to share to receive captioned incoming calls, but it works great! And it's a real live operator doing the captioning, not an automated set up. There are other CapTel...
