A good 3,000+, but not nonstop. After all that driving you start to hallucinate and see the road lines follow you everywhere you walk.
TBPM: Most awkward tourist situation you've been in as a tourist?
Yes, I travel often and love the feeling of just coming back home :)
TPBM: if a zombie horde wearing underwear helmets was pursuing you, what would you use to fend them off?
Hey, just wanted to say you rock. Side thought here:
Why not look towards reframing disability into the skills people with "disabilities" have as a result of their disabilities? These are skills people without disabilities don't have and these skills can translate into major advantages.
One thing to consider is that Colonialism (as per Dr. Paddy Ladd's examinations of the devastating colonization of the Deaf world from 1880-present) tends to create fragmented identities, the effects of which you're potentially seeing. I can recommend academic literature that addresses this...
I would use PAH in March, June, November, August, January, April, October, January, May, July, September, December, and February. ;)
Not in Junetember, though. Bad month for PAH.
Solo mainstreamed. I remember one day I did a project that blew away all the Yale/Princeton/Harvard-minded kids in a science competition. It was a big deal because winning this particular competition really bolstered your college apps.
I'll never forget the look on their faces when they...
Joe, I respect you wholeheartedly for taking this journey with your partner. I know of many hearing people who do not make the effort to learn to sign for their Deaf partner. For you to go out and do this, you get mad props from me.
Signed,
A fan. :)
Skilled Deaf ASLer here in grad school. Looking for someone who can blow my mind and teach me amazing, sophisticated, brilliant new things: a new skill, knowledge, language, anything! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE learning and I'm thrilled to help teach ASL in return!
Absolutely! One of the major benefits of Gallaudet is it gives you space to really introspect and develop yourself as you would if you had no communication barriers. That might sound trivial to some, but it's massive when you spend most of your life in the hearing world. You'll run into many...
I love the idea! There are enormous cognitive advantages to being Deaf that many people don't have. I like to think about how those advantages might play out in a presidency. :)
If I were President, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the fella for that role, I'd start by giving everyone free cookies...
I think reframing helps tremendously. I train myself with the mindset of "As a Deaf/etc person, I am pretty darn badass and I can do things that hearing people can't do."
And if you take the time to look at the gifts of Deaf people, they are BADASSSSSS. For one thing, did you know the the CIA...
